Posted June 14, 200420 yr i was just wandering if anybody knew how much carpet it woulf take too cover the door panels mk6 escort 5 dr. like the blue one shown on the how 2 page. thinking about doing it. the rolls i can see at the min r 140cm x 85cm but i dont know how many rolls i would need. cheers
June 14, 200420 yr I only did my top panels, and mine took about a square metre. Ian can advise about the door pockets, but it can't be much more. BTW don't rip your door pulls out, there's an easier way. I'll tell you when you're ready to do it
June 14, 200420 yr Author well i will probably b gettin the carpet 2morrow so can u tell me how to get the door pulls off. without breaking them
June 14, 200420 yr When u get card off the dooryou'll see the handle held by 4 rivets & a grey strip. Clip the rivets flush with the strip with side cutters to end up like this: remove grey strip and slide handle out thru opening leaving lower strip in situ When u put it back together, just use large self-tappers or self tappers & washers to refix handle grey strip and handle Hope that helps
June 15, 200420 yr getting the old stuff off is the worst bit. Make sure you've got a nice flexible material to fit and it goes like clockwork
June 15, 200420 yr Author is Bass Box carpet the best thing to use or what other material would b suitable.
June 15, 200420 yr is Bass Box carpet the best thing to use or what other material would b suitable. I used a velour type material, but I think Ian used bass box cover in blue, and his came out a lot neater than mine.
June 15, 200420 yr Author did it take 1 square meter to do all the top parts of the doors. i cant see me needing much more to do the bottom pockets
June 16, 200420 yr I bought a metre of the width of the material (which I think was around a metre) I had loads leftover but don't know if it was enough to do the pockets as I didn't do mine!
June 16, 200420 yr i'd like to do mine but am scared i wont get the material as taught as id like it to make it look nice what sort of glue do you use?
June 16, 200420 yr I used that spray adhesive, and just do a little bit at a time to ensure the best finish. I used one roll of bass box carpet and that was enough to do all the doors and pockets of a 5 door.
June 16, 200420 yr Author ok when i start putting on the new carpet should i start at the top and work down or bottom and work up (top panel) cause will it not crease when u come to do around were the handle goes. i'm going to give it a go later.(better work)
