cargy
how do i get the gear gaiter off to replace it for a nice blue one???? i have a 1996 lx the later interior The gear lever surround (if its the same as mine: just unclips, and you either remove the gerknob and slide the whole thing off, or you can undo the strap that holds the top of the gaiter collarand slide it over your knob in situ. The gaiter is held to the surround trim by large staples which u can carefully remove with an old screwdriver.
ryancollins
it is the same like the colour mate, how do i take the surround off, wheres the best place to unclip the plastic surround the bits thats blut or dont i need to? dont wantto damage it u c cheers matey
cargy
Not saying it's the best way, but i hooked my fingers under the bit where the gaiter goes beneath the trim (plenty of slck in the gaiter) and wiggled it free. I did break one of the clips tho, so someone might know a better way, cos those clips can be quite tight
ryancollins
did youhave to get new clips or has it gone back on ok???? soz for all the quesions
cargy
The clips are just part of the moulding that engage into holes within the console itself. one of mine had got brittle (probably from the heater) and stayed in the hole The other clips seem to be holding it OK, anyway The holes have a small sleeve that keeps the trim tight in the hole and these sometimes come out with the trim. If they do just slide them off and put them back in the holes. When u pull the trim, pull it vertically upwards and it should just come away easily enough
