Dunk
well I did but mine was a cvh engine in my old car and it used as much oil as petrol. Not sure about the zetec. It can mean the oil pressure is too high and you could blow seals etc. but you should be ok.

Paul
i doubt it would do much tbh - wheres a mechanic when ya need one... lol but it might be worth drianing some off tho - just wait till it cold (important) and get a container of some kind... then just undo the sum plug and let an inch or so drain off and put it back in - u'll have to be quick tho and it WILL be messy
Tom_escort2004
bah, probs a bit late to reply. i used to apprentice mechanic. basically if the engine is designed to take 4 litres of oil and you put in say 4.2 or something it will be okay, it will just smoke a bit or maybe not do anything, but say if you put 5 litres+ into a engine which takes 4 litres then it will smoke like mad and probably blow the seals. my mate put over 5 litres in his rover 214 and it had gone off the dipstick, needless to say everytime you put the heaters on and started the car from cold, all you could smell was burning oil, and it used to let out blue smoke when cold. my mum also did it in her old mk4 escort hcs, all it did was seeped out from around the rocker cover gasket onto the exhaust manfiold, pissed the neighbours off with the stench , and made it look as if the engine was on fire but she did put DOUBLE what your supposed to put in! Oil changes (or draining 'cos you're a muppet and put too much in! ) are best done warm - though note 'warm' rather than 'hot', as there's nothing like oil scalding all over your hands as a wakeup call! You could just keep dipping and wiping mate?! You'll drop the level eventually
Mike C
You could just keep dipping and wiping mate?! You'll drop the level eventually lol yeah, use a spoon!

I took it for a spin 115 up and down the dual carrigeway and about and then drove home and took the oil cap straight off hoping it would let out aload of the vapour from the oil hopefully making it go down, will check again tomorrow. simion_levi
Errm, Haynes says minimum to maximum mark is about 0.5-1 litre, depending on engine I imagine. From memory, that's about 1.5cm?
