i know most of you may be die hard ford fans, but i fancy something different to the average first persons car, eg, saxo, nova, corsa, fiesta, escort etc

i saw this Rover 214SI on autotrader

Its a 1.4 16v engine and has the following modifications-

220 turbo brake up grade(vented disk's) *220 throttle body *turbo alloys with new toyo proxes all round!!!!! *lowered 40mm all round *sportex back box twin 2 1/2'' *spoiler + coupe rear flush panel *mark 3 dash with slight colour coding *lockwood white dials *momo gear knob *carbonfibre spark plug cover (real stuff not plastic fake ) *gold oil cap *rear windows tinted in silver reflective film *angle eye spot lights

its also had a new gearbox and clutch last november and track rod ends, 10 months mot 5 months tax

1994 l reg done 82k miles,

the bonnet needs a good t cut or something as its gone like a matt finish.

here is pics:

They are good cars, but can you afford to insure a modifeid car if its your first?

I dont know what rovers go for these days you would have to look at similar age/mileage/condition cars to see if its good value.

Also when someone modifies a car it generally loses value 8)

State of that drivers arm rest on the door card, shes done a shite load more than 82k, and that steering wheel doesn't inspire confidence, and as for the box and clutch, doesnt mean anything, if anything its proabley been thrashed harder.

Go for a test drive.

Im with Colin, looks like its done more than the stated milage. Another good way to tell mileage is the state of the gear knob, but in this case its been changed........

a lad tried to show off infront of me last month in a 214 and snapped his driveshaft trying to wheelspin away  i had to push him to the side of the road

outside on that looks nice apart from the front grill other than the inside needs cleaning/sorting :thumb:

yeh i was thinkin that, maybe if hes got old mots or any service history? i reckon its done a good 100k miles

i know they aint the best of engines, but its first car aint it, my mates 214 sli ate clutches like no tommorow, then the gearbox went , cambelt snapped.

im just after a cheap car with more of a spec to that of a standard fiesta lets say, i mean look at that rover, leather seats and all that interoor for £600, you can buy a l reg fiesta mk3 for £600, and you dont get a rear wiper, a fag lighter, center console or clock, you just get atacky burberry interior!

sheeesh lol

rover 214s are ok cars if you find one that isnt trashed there good runners but not as a first car! all i had to read was turbo and i knew it was wrong!!!!

my mate is insured full comp on a 214 for 1700 with 1 year ncb so first time will be high i immagin especally with mods!

Those rovers do wear very quickly and are not the nicest of interiors. I think you can get better than that :thumb:

insurance was £500 ish quid in mums name, im fucked if im paying a grand for insurance, sorry but im a Plonker like that, im not insured on my motorbike as i think its a blatant pisstake £751 tpoon a 125cc thats worth £300 grrr anyway i quite like it, if i get a years motoring out of it id be happy.

Its just i want something different, im sick of the bog standard fords, fiestas like that you pay £600 for and they are standard as something from the 70s, escorts are okay, but everyone has afiesta, clio, escort, nova, saxo, as there first car i just want to be different.

im gonna ask for the full reg and do a check on it, and if he has any service history or old mots.

he seems a genuine bloke, his little daughter loves the car as you can see her in 2 pics! aww sweet lol

i dont like french cars, just the styling of them, i dont like jap crap, i think ill either get a escort mk6 or a corsa, but im not spending big bucks.

If you must have a Rover, try to get one with the Honda engine, 216 I think :)

its not that i want a rover they just seem okay cars, bar the clutch, gearbox and head gasket problems, i had a drive in one and there pretty comfy etc, its had a new gearbox and clutch in november 2003 anyway.

i just emailed him, will see what he says, do you think the bonnet will polish up?

Used to work on these in a Rover dealership when I was a bit younger. As RFCRangers said, deffo watch out for a dodgy head gasket, theyre always going on these ;)

That bonnet looks like it could be dodgy spraywork to me, and its not got owt done to it, which could indicate a front end smack ;)
