there was a revue in a mag ages ago that said brown bread was best but dynamat now have a range of about 8 different types depending on whether you are using it to soundproof against general sound waves or low level bass....so theres loads to choose from and all stoopidly expensive 8o
if ur gonna do it u may as well do it properly dyntamat extreme all the way 19.99 a roll :D
If u soundproof all the boot, will u still b able to hear the bass outside the car? Or does it just stop the sound vibrating into the bodywork?

Soundproofing (isolation) is acheived using a combination of mass and dead air. Using a heavy but limp material such as lead or thick PVC can help with direct sound transmission in/out of your car, but only to a certain degree as your windows and panels will act much the same way as a drum skin would and provide little to no deadening....

On the other hand, if you're referring to how to make your car sound acoustically "better" inside then bond the same limp heavy materials to panels and other internal structures that can vibrate in sympathy with the sound inside the car.

Gaskells produce an acoustic carpet underlay which you can use - works well underneath any carpeting in the car. Auralex produce a material commonly used in home theatre and music studio applications which is an extremely heavy (and expensive) solid PVC sheeting which you can glue to the insides of your door cards and metal panel areas near to your speaker installs. Lining out your entire car would be impractically expensive....£360 for 11m2....

Try requesting a couple of samples of these carpet underlays...may be a bit thick for most applications, but wicked if you install some nice carpeting on top of it ;-)

Fomalux Royale carpet underlay

Twintack Supreme carpet underlay

The only consideration I didn't mention was the added weight to your motor....Sheetblok weighs in at an impressive 4.85kg p/m2!!! That brings in a semi-decent floor-boot-panels-roof-rear seats install up to an extra 40kg of weight!!! Thats like an entire Ronny Corbett in your car!!! Keeping your acoustics mint!!!
