JayB Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Hi, is it worth changing the inlet manifold or maybe throttle body on my 1.8Si for one from a 130ps model? I mean will it give any useful power for the cash - and what actual parts do i need to change? Maybe a chip and the 130 cams would be more worthwhile?? Advice from those who have done so please, not mere speculation. Cheers.
JayB Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Ok, nice one. I did post a question before about the Uni-chip, can't seem to find a lot of info, like how much and where? Am I right in thinking they are custom-mapped rather than being a DIY plug-in? Jay.
Markt8 Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 unichip cams and throttle body No need for swapping the inlet manifold as its identical to my 1.6 one
Stu Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 The 130PS and 105PS inlet manifold are *not* the same. The runners have a different diameter and it does make a difference (as I have proven on a flowbench). Don't forget that airflow is power, there is no point in remapping your car (with a unichip for example) if you still have a restriction on your intake. How exactly do you intend to make more power with a unichip if you're not flowing any more air? You need the inlet manifold, throttle body, ecu, cams etc..
Markt8 Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Manifold isnt dif mate, its identical. Ive had them side by side
Stu Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Manifold isnt dif mate, its identical. Ive had them side by side I recommend you get one of these then... Either that or some
zvh1900 Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 the main difference between 115bhp and 130bhp, is they have difffernt cams, slightly different throttle-body,slightly different ecu mapped out
Stu Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 the main difference between 115bhp and 130bhp, is they have difffernt cams, slightly different throttle-body,slightly different ecu mapped out I think you'll find those 'slight' changes are actually quite huge changes.. It's not easy to simply gain an extra 15-20hp on a n/a engine, especially a 1.8 without increasing the redline and whole power band.. The 130PS throttle body has about twice the flow properties over the 115PS one, thats a bit more than a slight increase! If you contemplate using the 115PS inlet manifold, you'll never see 130PS.. ever.. (on n/a)..
sortedford Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 many people have got over 130bhp using the 115ps throttle body
Stu Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 many people have got over 130bhp using the 115ps throttle body If you believe that, you'll believe anything (rolling roads dont count as measurement devices)...
sortedford Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 yeh but when it was 140bhp, a rr isnt gonna be that in accurate, when it was hitting bang on results on standard cars
Dunk Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 many people have got over 130bhp using the 115ps throttle bodyIf you believe that, you'll believe anything (rolling roads dont count as measurement devices)... And why not. Perfectly good device for measuring power of a car. Manufacturers use em. There are several people that have hit 130 with NA power. And several that have hit more. Is it Pricey who is running 149bhp & 148 lb torque? Thats almost RS2000 power from the zetec and running N/A
