plumber60
agreed, it depends on the owner i (will) change my oil and filter and have the engine flushed every 6k miles, only covered 13k though
BUTLER
Not really, but i wouldnt buy a car thats done over 75k, just because i wouldn't! Got mine on 27k
simion_levi
Yes, definitely. Even if you can see a fully documented service history with oil changes every 5K, you'd be stupid to think that the engine is the only thing affected by mileage. Once you get to a certain stage I think you need to be prepared to replace every bush, bearing & wire when deciding whether to buy or not.
Mike C
nope, not in the slightest, shudnt bother any "entusiast" IMO, low mileage is a bonus, but not the be all and end all by any means
Dunk
I prefer low mileage. The SIs I was looking at earlier this year I made sure were below 60k. Seemed the ones that were owned by blokes and garaged were best condition. the ones owned by birds. Crappy. When I buy an RS2000 next year, im not really gonna be so bothered about mileage. Just trek all over the country until I find a decent 4x4 and buy that. LOL
neil
Yes mileage does bother me I dont really like cars over 100,000 whatever condition they are in. But as I am doing 300+ a week again it seems pointless changing until next year sometime. Then I will be looking properly again
DAVE W
Not really millage would effect buying costs i have had cars go upto 120,000 miles and run sweet as a nut Mine will be brand new when i have finished Edited October 3, 2004 by DAVE W
P3TER
mine is just about on 92k and is still going strong (Please don't go bang!) Should be fine for a while yet.
foxdie
yeah, i am a lil cautious about high miliers. But then again a own a import which probably means my cars been around the clock like a million times and i would never know! it reads 68,231 miles... rs1600i
Just sold my mondeo estate 1.8 zetec 180000miles, Original Engine, Gearbox. Had a clutch at 120,000, mint underneath. Mileage don't really matter (just hope it's replacement lasts as long!)
Teribus
Milage doesn't really bother me. yeah, you're gonna have to replace stuff when cars get to high miles, but then i'm training up as a mechanic, so i'm capable of it. My car is on 141,000, and the engine needs work, i'll admit. But that's my own fault, as (I think) the Injection pump is faulty. This only appeared after i changed the stop solenoid, so my theory is that dirt got in the pump and wore it, meaning it's running rough now. I've put that one down to experience, don't rush a job, it only works against you. I've a mate with a Mondeo GLX TD and it's done 250,000 miles and still runs OK. One of my workmates has a 250,000 mile Cavalier 2.0 and it runs not too bad (But then, Vauxhalls seem to get a wee bit rough when they get on a bit anyway, so i'd say it runs as well as any 100,000-mile car) It doesn't bother me. So long as the shell isn't rotten and the thing starts and goes and stops again, i'm not bothered. I can fix anything that needs fixing, so i should be OK. -T
K3V HA
Youve got to be cautious, but saying that cars made in the last 10 years will go way over 100k if treated right! I would have no hesitation in buying a Beemer with 100k or over on with FBMWSH. My 'shell' is 127k old, the paint is 8months old, 95% of the parts are 7month old and the engine is 7k old, so i didnt give a shite about the mileage on the clock!!
