Van Drivers

I can appreicate now how annoyed those of us on here who are van drivers can get on the road.

Was sent on a delivery today to Workington in good ol' Cumbria - 150 miles - in a tranny van that struggled to reach 60. As the M74 up here was closed today (and still is i think) due to a pile up I had to go the country roads and usual get stuck behind some diddy doing 40 mph. Took me 4 hours to get there and am knackered now - respect to you guys who do that as a day job!

Anyway I can't understand those folk down there, nor can they me by sounds of it. I asked where the Hospital was to one guy and he said "what pub you looking for?" ?(

Saw some nice Escorts though, few GTi's, one same as mine with chrome Lexus lights confirmed to me i don't like the look of them! Any members from down there saw a crackin P reg red 5 dr i think ?

I saw that on the news about the M74, some pile up it was as well!

Ripped the axle clean out of a Rover Metro anyway :)

I know how annoying it is being a van driver. Sometimes i get sent from my work in Galashiels to Larbert (about 90 miles), Livingston (about 70), Musselburgh, Dalkeith or just local. It's a little Vauxhall Combo which is really underpowered for the weight it's designed to carry.

You know, you do get used to understanding people from Cumbria. I used to spend my summers there from when i was a baby right up until i was 15. my grandparents had a caravan in Allonby, which is between Maryport & Silloth. The accent becomes second nature after that time, and you do get used to the fact that the english are a bit slow....

I'm not sure if I ever could get used to them. I can understand Geordies alright, but these Cumbrian creatures were a bit like a cross between a Geordie and a Welshman.

Tis funny you should mention English are a bit slow, i ALWAYS get that impression!!!

Lee - where was you going from and to ??

Tis not a bad road really Northampton - Coatbridge but wouldn't fancy Thurso!!! eek.gif

There's tonnes of Asda HGV's on the road here I counted 10 on one stretch of road!! probably due to motorway being closed though.

Also car felt like a Ferrari when I got back in it lol, very fast and low sitting!!! :D

If We keep going like this, then this lot are gonna re-build hadrian's wall :P

But, yeah, I always get that impression. I can understand every english accent you can throw at me (except londoners, but that's not really an accent, it's a different language!) yet these english people struggle to understand fellow english people, let alone a true and proper scottish accent (Hawick, actually, has a very broad accent of it's own. Throw some of that at the english and they're fcuked :) )

whats a 'diddy'??? :D

I've also been there and done that during the day, not again!!! nights for driving now :thumb: no stress, not much traffic, accidents don't usually cause too much trouble unless they're deaths at night.

Longest van delivery was in my Merc 308 Sprinter T reg to Germany!!!! 1700 miles in less than 48 hours. Drive, kip on the seats, drive, kip a bit more, drive etc etc :D :thumb:
