Right...where do I start? lol

Basically I had a new alarm fitted as soon as a got the car, this Cat1 Cobra Alarm I thought had drained the battery and was not fitted correctly as my battery was flat a mere week later.

They kindly came around and found out for me that the alarm was fine and was not drawing to much current, but my car at rest was drawing 8.0A of current instead of the expect 0.01/4A...this is a dodgy problem as we could hear some relays ticking ontop of the fuse box, when playing around with these fuses the problem would subside for a bit, then it would come back!

The problem would also completely disapear when the Interior Light Relay Fuse from the fusebox was removed.... :O

Therefore we came to the assumption that the interior light relay itself was fudged, I replaced both the Square Blue and Green relays on the top of the fusebox, cost me £25!! Grrr.

Anyways I tested the A being drawn from the car battery at idle again after this and it was still 8A, therefore my battery was being drained really really fast at idle...not good.

The problem is still rectified when the Interior Light Relay Fuse is taken out, but I cannot for the life of me work out what is causing this.

The car has had a new fusebox before, a couple of years ago...however when I got the car the inside had evidence of a lot of condensation because the speaker housings and seat mountings were rusted, although everything electrical works and I have replaced all rusty bits (car is otherwise fine no rust inside, under carpets etc)

Its really annoying as I have gone through two new batterys, and I cannot afford to have the car unalarmed atm for other reasons...moreover the addition of a new set of alloys etc. I cannot sleep at night without knowing my baby is safe!

So does anyone have an idea of whats wrong? I have had an electrician have a look at is with a diagnostics computer and say it was fine...? :nutter:

All else I have to go on iis conincidence, when I bought the car a few fuses that connect to the battery where unplugged, and the interior reading lights (two lights at either side of 20second elapsed time light) where unplugged/dodgy connections.

Help! I don't know what to do....its very frustrating atm having to take my battery out every five mins to recharge it, I cannot replace it until the problem is sorted, and my car has a well rusty battery tray which means taking out the battery causes a lot of grief. :nutter:

Thanks everyone 8)

I had this on my old mk5 esccort td, had a new alternator fitted because the other one was fooked and wasn't doing anything and then my battery started draining itself. The garage found that the alternator was faulty and was pulling power when the ignition was switched off. New alternator sorted it out. But in cars it could be any amount of things draining the battery.

I finally got my problem sorted, the old stereo had been hardwired into a permanent live, and the two iso connectors had been shorted together...with two fuseboxes and a giant coil inbetween it all!! Was a big shock when I took out my stereo!

I chopped it all out, wired in new connectors - bought a new headunit and now shes fine :)
