Lambo
A sempron is a new AMD chip, i think it is similar to a celeron, but i hate celeron chips so want to avoid it if it is really
Scotteh
ahhh yeah, its meant to rival the celeron D chip, from wot ive read it outperforms intel's offering in most applications, so if ur work is after a budget processor for their machines it definitely seems like the best choice they wont compare to p4's and amd 64's tho m8, its a budget processor after all Edited November 26, 2004 by Scotteh
foxdie
it was my understanding the sepron was AMD's rival to Intel's Xneon processor. even indorsed by IBM
Scotteh
nah its to rival the celeron D, since its release its held the budget crown due to amd concenctrating on their 64bit range, but with the release of the sempron it looks like the celeron D is gonna disappear pretty quick

AndyCanning
hi mate, we stock these at work and also build systems for people that what them. Sempron is just like an updated Duron with a 256 cache on the chip. It has only come out because windows is a year late. So amd had to bring out a chip on the socket A because they had stopped producing the Xp chip. They are ok with office programs but everyone now seems to be gettin ready for the new windows next year and gettin the 64 bit chip. This might explain more Andy Edited November 26, 2004 by Canning's Escort

DAVE W
64bit processors are no use at the minute as nothing really uses them windows is only a 32bit program doubt you will see any noticable differences Edited November 26, 2004 by DAVE W
