What shall i do?

I curently have a 1992 1.6 cvh with a carb. there is no cat as it's too old. there is rust in the usuall places (rear whele arches, fillercap) and a tiny bit round some of the welds between the body pannel's in the engine bay. appart from that it's in pretty good condition for 149000 miles.

what shall i do? i want to fit a body kit, splitter, side skirts, rear bumper, spoiler, repair rust, alloy's, lowering, etc. Pretty normal stuff. but it would ust not be right to roll up in a nice good looking car if the engine sounds rough.

what do people think i should do bearing in mind i don't have the space to do the work myself and am on a limited budget.

do i

1) re-build the curent engine ?

2) get a zetec engine installed( 2.0 litre conversion) :D ?

3) re-build the head, do a zvh conversion and finish the full zetec conversion later?

4) sell the car and get a 1.8 zetec escort?

5) something else?

i would ultmatly like to do a 2.0 litre mondeo zetec conversion but am not convinced i can do it in budget. obviously the fact i would already not need a cat would be a big plus in my curent car, but it needs work to bring it up to scratch.

Insurance is not a problem as i am 25, no points and have no accidents or convictions to declare. but i can't afford to turbo it as that would raise the insurance too much.

what do you think...........................................

p.s. The car cost me next to nothing, it is a ghia, and the ride is sooo smooth it's unreal (as i had to have most of the front end suspention re-buit :nutter: bloddy sheffield roads)

i say 5) buy a car already modded in a way which you like, saves you doing all the work.

Re the above

and
am on a limited budget
aren't usually seen in the same sentance as buying that lot would cost than some whole cars plus that didn't include any engine work you mentioned

how much is it likely to cost for the conversion / re-build tho? i do have a reasonable budget this year, but would rather not disclose it. ultimatley it is the space that is the issue as i don't have a drive or garage. is there anyone in shefield who know's anyone who could help? the rust has not really set in yet. if it is worth it, it is easily sorted as it is only light surface rust.

I am capable of doing the zetec conversion myself with help from some mates but i just don't have the space to do it.

but i might just have to bite the bullet and buy a new car tho and start from there.
