Posted April 29, 200519 yr with my insurance money coming my way soon and a new offer offered yesterday i was talking to my dad and it made me realise that spending all that money on the car (which is my plan) and then for some cnut to nick it or damage it, i know its the risk everybody takes with there car but im thinking if i do thousands of pounds worth of mods i can not afford to replace it, but if i was to do subtle mods then it would easy to replace, its a bad way of thinking that im only doing incase someone does something maybe, but i wouldnt like to wake up the next morning after coming home from the bodyshop and its gone, i know im going to have a clifford etc etc, but if they want it that much then they will have it, he also suggested doing all the mods but leaving it at my sisters (will not get touched) and buying a motorbike to run around in and then get the car when i want, this is a v good idea but then is it a waste of money on the car which im only going to use when i went to go get it, its now making me think quite alot as the time is creeping up slowley 25th may and dont want to make the wrong decsion but i wanted a proper modded car so badly lol, the money is buring a whole in my pocket (now since i found out that carlton are doing fibreglass installs etc )if push come to shove and i couldnt make a descion, i would get it and done and leave outside the house and take the risk cause i want it that bad, just wanted to know what you guys think about it, (people like mike c, lee r, i know there is more but there the cars that stick in my mind) just wanted to know if you get worried about leaving it in a car park or a multi storey or something like that when you will be leaving it for a long period of time cheers people
April 29, 200519 yr CCTV lookin no the car 24/7.......garage if possible....cat1 alarm/immobiliser will help as if they REALLY want it they'd need to pick the car up and you'd hear the lorry......after having my break-in i was thinkin exactly the same, but i've now bought a 24/7 camera which is hidden pointing at the car ALL the time, and a neighbour has had a camera fitted at the only entry/exit of the street for some time so if owt does happen i'll have footage of them doing it and possibly the reg number of the car they came ni
April 29, 200519 yr Still doesnt stop them from nicking it though. Make the camera obvious and put up a sign. You want to deter them from even considering nicking it or causing any damage to it. You could use a car cover lol.
April 29, 200519 yr Make the camera obvious and put up a signThen they know where the camera is though.... black spray paint over the lense would sort that
April 29, 200519 yr I'd invest in one of these to start with: A CAT1 alarm and a security camera as Aaron says and i'd of thought you would be fine. You could always try renting a garage, not sure how expensive that is though.
April 29, 200519 yr Not having a class car is no protection at all - I've had 'Eric' badly keyed on five occasions now and the old BMW has recently been broken into with damage both to the door and to the dash - all they got was the old original Kenwood which is worth zilch!! Penny
April 29, 200519 yr insure all the mods, agrreeed valuation, if its nicked you get them money.also a thatcham disc lock is a wise choice
April 29, 200519 yr what companies do agreed valuations?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think adrian flux, but they told me to come back when im 19!
April 29, 200519 yr Author or was all this always pie in the sky? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> what you mean mate
April 29, 200519 yr or was all this always pie in the sky? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> what you mean mate<{POST_SNAPBACK}>"Was it all just talk of something you'd like, but haven't got the b0llocks to do?" - that's the long and short of it! Lots of it on this board With regards to the line "if they want it they will have it (no matter what the security)" - that's proper bullshite! Does anyone know the spec of CAT1 alarms? They're shite hot, it would take ages to get round one!!! A garage is a must. Will protect your paintwork from the elements too. Find a decent lock up and it'll be safer. Lock ups are around £30 a week here, depending on quality. Do you plan to use the car everyday? If you do, then I think you're mad. Cars with wild kits get stonechips incredibly easily, plus there's a massive chance it'll get scratched in a car park. I know what you mean about "not using the car" - but surely you'd get fed up using the car to do repetitive journeys (ie, going to work!)????? I used to use mine everyday going to / from school, I bloody hated it! fcuking traffic and terrible roads meant I wasn't enjoying the car and wished I was driving a shitter which I didn't care about. Btw, you mentionned multi-storey car parks....... Sure you're kit would let you over the first ramp? LOL CAT1 with pager system, maybe even a tracker!!!!!! Then have some security warning stickers on the car...... Chuck it in a decent garage, and that'll be your best bet imo. You'll only have to sacrifice to be able to afford it. Better spending 3k on mods and them being safe, rather than 4k and risking it! Can always do the other mods later, you'll just have to save up a bit. One last note; don't modify too fast. f you do, you're more likely to loose interest when it's "finished", plus your mind and preferences change all the time!
