Posted April 29, 200519 yr Anyone know which resistor you have to use to be able to fit an aftermarket steering wheel in a Mk6 and not have the airbag light on all the time?
April 29, 200519 yr Author Nah, it's stops your pretensioners working and your pass airbag. Wanna do a proper job.
April 29, 200519 yr i got harnesses going in so no pre-tensioners anyway so who cares about pre-tensioning, didn't have em in a Mk1/2/3/4/5 Escort I just removed the bulb
April 29, 200519 yr pulling the bulb doesnt stop em working surely? My MOMO boss came with eall the kit to keep it working, although I fucked it up somewhere along the line, and need to take the bulb out at some point
April 29, 200519 yr Author Sorry, I didn't mean taking the bulb out effects it. When you unplug the airbag, your supposed to solder in a resistor so the car still thinks the air bag is there. This means that the pass airbag and pretensioners don't stop working. I presume everyone just takes the bulb out though.
April 29, 200519 yr how can u mess it up lee all you do is put a poiece of wire in the connecter for the stearing wheel to connect the 2 terminals, thats it

April 29, 200519 yr lol, fair enought mines the ribbon tpe 2 i just fitted it onto the new boss along with the airbag connecter
April 30, 200519 yr Author I haven't got the ribbon type. It's one of them yellow connectors. Also, how the feck do you get the wheel off once you've undone the middle bolt. It won't budge!!!

April 30, 200519 yr Author Yeah I smacked the fecker off wiv a hammer in the end, then only to find out the centre bolt ain't long enough to attach the boss. Could ya explain what you have to do to get rid of the airbag light?
May 5, 200519 yr Author how can u mess it up lee all you do is put a poiece of wire in the connecter for the stearing wheel to connect the 2 terminals, thats it<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does it matter what wire you use? Does it not have to have any resistance? By the connector, I presume you mean the yellow plug?
May 5, 200519 yr yeh the yellow plug, i got some wire with my kit. It wasnt very thick at all tho, but just cable no resistor or anything
May 5, 200519 yr Author yeh the yellow plug, i got some wire with my kit. It wasnt very thick at all tho, but just cable no resistor or anything<{POST_SNAPBACK}> So technically, you could just open up the connector and bridge the connections with solder? What did you do about the back plate aswell, the one that screws into the original steering wheel that has the air bag wire running from it and what feeds the horn cabling to the centre? I couldn't screw mine into the boss I got so it rubs/sqeeks when you turn the wheel to a certain point, bloody annoying. Cheers for you help so far.
