Posted May 1, 200519 yr dunno whether to buy these or not. Titanium-coated polypropylene cones 75 Watts RMS They're only £20!!! down from 70 on bassjunkies. To go with my current system: JBL GTO755.6 6 Channel amp, and a JBL GT4 12" sub. What anyone reckon?
May 1, 200519 yr hmmmm, not sure, 75w RMS ain't too bad i spose If they're down from £70, might be worth a purchase. If they ain't much kop, stick 'em on E-Bay, bound to get ur money back at least if u put Brand New or used once, RRP £70 or whatever Edited May 1, 200519 yr by Mike C
May 1, 200519 yr Author Cheers Mike, was tryin to convince chappers to buy some about ten minutes ago... get a couple of sets and save on the postage... and he did say he wanted some new rears.... Come on chappers Heard loads of people sayin that 6x9's are the root of all evil though, and that they sound cack with a sub etc. But I'm only after some 'much better than standard' rear fill! Are 6x9's evil??
May 1, 200519 yr Unfortunetly the power rating means nothing, you could fit Z-rated tyres on your car - it doesn't mean it is capable of over 170mph - or that the tyres are any less suitable for travelling at 70mph Directed generally are ok, I am quite impressed with their new range of amps - and as much as I hate 6x9s with a passion, as long as they are well engineered (like the Genesis 6x9s) they should be ok.
May 1, 200519 yr Are 6x9's evil?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> to a lot of purists, yes, to me, no If you amp 'em up too much they might mess with the sound if u r really fussy about your ICE, but I'm a big fan of 'em TBH. Great way to start of an install, loada amplification to the 6x9s, then as you get more bits (decent front speakers, subs etc), turn the amplification to them for a better sound range and distribution and away from the 6x9s, but leave the 6x9s there cos IMO they add a lot of ambience
May 1, 200519 yr I would recommend Chappers doesn't get 6x9s - his system is running good component parts currently - and secondly he uses free-air subwoofers and the 6x9s would bugger up the bass.
May 1, 200519 yr Author hmm... is this... a free air sub then?? Thats what they'd be fitted next to...
May 1, 200519 yr As MikeC says - that isn't free air. As you are running a sub, the other argument against 6x9s is that over time you will fry them. If you look at someones system who is running them and a sub - get them to unplug the 6x9s and look at how much they move. Then imagine the VCs of the 6x9s constantly having to work against that.
May 1, 200519 yr Author Would that not work the same as if i get a set of coaxials to go in the back though? If i've got any sub in the boot it'll fry the rear speakers in the end wouldn't it? Not just 6x9's? Cheers for the help guys!!
May 1, 200519 yr Yes, in the Escort there is this problem, but - the reason oval speakers aren't (technically) as good is that the oval cone shape isn't as strong as a round cone thus making it more susceptable to physical distortion and hence more distorted music. The larger the cone the weaker it will be (as the cone material will be the same thickness) so in the case of 5x7's the probalem isn't too bad but by the time you get up to 6x9's the problem is much bigger. Also, the problem is worse when playing bass which is why 6x9's generally sound pants (yeah man turn The bass up like coz itz wiked innit)
