Drk_red_Mk5 Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Hiya, i went to change the oil on my car the other day, put the ring spanner on only to see that the sump plug had been rounded off, most probably by the garage that did it last (recently went bust!) so i was wondering is there any way i can get if out without needing a new plug? cheers

Get yourself a highly magntised one while your at, keeps the oils postively charge (so it sticks to stuff) and draws all the small bits of engine floating around in the oil.
theresa Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 As above, buy a new plug. In the meantime, to get the old one out, just use some molegrips or something.

danmk6trx1 Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 hammer and screwdriver or chisel (spelling??)
Drk_red_Mk5 Posted September 5, 2005 Author Posted September 5, 2005 teeth? sod that, had enuff trouble gettin tops off bottles with them!lolill get a new one there then, i dont wanna crack the sump getting the old one out tho. can i heat it up forst a bit to help it on its way?
Stu Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Be careful. Use a smaller socket and tap it on with a hammer. Alternatively, file the sides of it and use grips as above.
Drk_red_Mk5 Posted September 9, 2005 Author Posted September 9, 2005 im liking the filing and clamping option. the smaller socket seems a bit.......dodgy. im gonna play it safe with the filling.
