AutomodellistaGT Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 what do you think racism actually is? i.e. where should the line be drawn?
Scotteh Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 racism is not liking somebody just bcuz they are a different colour imo, jokes are just that, jokes, made by all people in every country, but theres a difference between a joke and beating the crap out of someone just because they are asian/black/white etc jokes make the world seem a happier place and often the funniest jokes are to do with sex/colour/sexual orientation etc, just bcuz as a people we like to take the pee out of each other, altho i feel now that that part of our society is slowly disappearing simply bcuz ppl take offence to the slighest things, especially if they can make money out of it, its a sad state of affairs wen OTT PC causes more racism than anything else imo

Brown Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 To me, racism is all about common sense. Sure, I may not like certain members of certain communities, but I don't feel the need to let EVERYONE know. Story.. About three years ago, I was heading out with my two white friends and my jamaican / black friend. It was christmas time and the taxi was on tarif 3 or something so we made a little joke about the price.. driver must have missed my black friend in the back and he started talking about how blacks are cheats.. they fiddle the meters and they're black this, black that.. well, that was it. As soon as my friend heard (he's a big 6'4 basketballer) that was it.. i just looked out of the window and forgot where I was for the moment.. "racist, fat mother f****, u seen who's in your car??! racist mother f*****".. this tirade went on until we got to our destination. Cabbie apologised and gave us a free ride.. moral of the story - know your audience. I have a few black friends and i HATE the N word.. seriously hate it. Thats just me. If you're gonna be racist, then thats up to you.. everyone has a different standard of "common sense".. some people are ignorant beyond belief and think they can say anything they want. Hmmm...
Scotteh Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 aye exactly tis common sense, the N word can often be used in a comedy way i.e. dave chappelles shows (yes hes black and he uses it) but then thats black ppl making light of something that for decades was very offensive and often still is....its like u not gonna walk up to a black guy in a shop and go "yo n*gga" but my black m8s often say it to me and i to them....y? bcuz we each know its not meant offensively but the random bloke in a shop isnt lol
AutomodellistaGT Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 The had a heated discussion with one of my girldfriends were flat mates about this he said he hated chavs. the way they hang around, the way they talk and the clothes they wear. I told him that if those kids had have been black or asian or whatever, he would be called a racist. E.g. take two sets of kids, one black one white, dress them identically as chavs and then stick them on the corner. its racist to dislike the coloured kids but fashionable to dislike the white. He couldnt see the connection that racism now is media generated and has been greyed he couldnt get it
Mike C Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I have black friends, so am certaily not racist would people on here class the words "Nigger", "Wog" and "Paki" (by themselves, regardless of context) offensive?
AutomodellistaGT Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 only in the same way as i find c*nt or w*nker. it's just an insult or cuss

AutomodellistaGT Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 i think some of it comes down to opressing a person or persons simply because of their race or colour, regardless of that character. for example there are some black people i really hate, but its because theyre horrible. Id hate them just the same if they were white
sidrick Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Coloured people are allowed to be racist, white folk aint. FACT.
