nick_GTI Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I have a major idle problem when i first start the car when the car is cold. Its a gti 1800 16v and alot of people have told me its the iscv. people say i can only access the control valve underneath the car. Is there anyway i can get at it through the top. Cheers, nick
basskiddanny Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 You can get to it from the top its just a bit more tricky aparently, although i couldnt get to it from the bottom and found going from the top easier....
nick_GTI Posted September 9, 2005 Author Posted September 9, 2005 Can you see it from the top? what did you take of to get to it? Is it under the throttle body? Cheers, Nick
Muzz Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 It could be many things mate, the easiest to sort would be the ICV. There is a how-to on removing and cleaning it Here . If this does not fix the problem, unplug the MAF sensor as per the other thread. If none of these work you could try and reset the ECU by simply disconnecting the battery, reconnecting it and start the car up and allow it to reset itself..be warned though as it will run rough for about 30-40 miles (You will need to drive it "normally" within this time). Some people have also found that the Throttle Positioning Sensor has been as fault and replacing that has sorted it out. To be honest with ya, there are Shite loads of possible fixes. My idling problem was fixed by simply changing the spark plugs, you could try a mini service to see if it helps it run better.
nick_GTI Posted September 9, 2005 Author Posted September 9, 2005 Cheers mate but can you get to the icv via top rateher than underneath the car?
