clunk when cold

Hi guys

Had this problem since bought the car in jan.Escort Mk5b 16vZetec.

when running from cold i get a clunk if i rev to quick on the pedal but only for bout quarter mile or less.just curious if its common.After that its fine.

More recently car was stalling on tickover.Left for a second or two started fine.Bit nervy at lights tho.Got sum NGK`s 2day as done 10,000 on ones that already in when bought.Also wiggled MAF & seems better for now.Maybe came bit loose when i put induction filter on.

A clunk or a knocking noise?

Deffo a clunk mate.not major prob as only does it if u accelerate and change gear quickly.And only for short distance?

You'd need to try and figure out where the clunk is coming from and exactly how to reproduce it..

clunk is coming from engine by the sounds of it.feels like loose engine mounts but as it only does it for bout 2-3 minutes when cold i ruled that out.Cant reproduce it?Only does it when drivin from cold?

A bit strange. Maybe gearbox related? Checked gearbox oil level?

Not checked gearbox oil.Didnt think it wud b that as it soon stops.will check anyway tho.

Stu's right mate could be gearbox related as if the oil in the gearbox is low it won't have had time to circulate properly in the first 2-3 minutes from cold, To check gearbox oil remove the allen key plug and top up oil till it starts running out of the hole then refit plug. Job done!!

Maybe why im havin little difficulty getting reverse sometimes without a grind???
