how do i get rid or treat rust(what products do you recomend) do i have them re sprayed or spray them my self with cans? havnt got a clue what to do so your help would be appreciated! i want out with the rust n in with the new

depends on how bad the rust is.. if its on the door seal, you might have to get them welded up 1st...

 

id say , sandpaper the fooook out if the rust area, so all the rust is gone, weld any holes then errr... well on mine i put a layer of filler over the top to smooth in and then primed and painted with an arsehole can.

 

wouldnt use a arc / tig / mig welder on the rusted parts tho, blows holes in it.

use abit of cure rust as well after uve sanded it away, just prevents (supposidly) it re-appearing! ive just had all mine sorted!

its just surface rust at the mo n a bit of bubblein so i would sand it down seal it with rust stuff them mask round area n spray? how would i blend it in n get rid of over spray! rob gti: how much did it cost you to sort yours?

also whats all this waxin seals people talk bout? waxolen think thats how its spelt? whats this do?

I had mine down at a bodyshop. cost me £100 for the whole tailgate treated and reprayed (had rust under the spoiler), a small bit of rust by the petrol capa dn the same place on the otherside of the car. looks fantastic now

On the rear arches, rust tends to go from inside through the metal to the outside, which is when you start to see bubbling.

 

Therefore by the time you can se it bubbling, it's gone right through the arch

How many people on here keep their arches totally free from much though, because you really should I think im a bit obsessive when it comes to getting them clean, but so many cars have big clumps on dirt stuck in there, its disgraceful

I'm obsessed about it.

 

Its the moist muck that rusts the arches in the first place!
