Ex-Finesse
Yeah, nightmare would be a pretty good word to use! It's definitely not a straight swap. Problems were coming up left right and centre and I just had to think about them logically. Didn't use the Haynes manual at all after the first weekend It's all done top notch though. Nothing at all is bodged! Forgotten half of the stuff I've used from the escort... but the engine bay looks very bare indeed now! EDIT: Ben, yeah, still deffo getting MO's and some 215/40/16s! No point whilst it's still non-running though! Also got some XR / RS skirts awaiting paint! The larger healights and smaller side lights are already fitted. Should be done, inc. MOs, for Central RSOC day Edited March 21, 2006 by Ex-Finesse

Ex-Finesse
Should be. Engine is all back in, and completed. A section of wiring has gone wrong whilst the car has sat around unused whilst I couldn't drive. It's to do with the fuel pump and is some kind of immobiliser that also cuts out the spark! Had an auto electrician out to look at it at the weekend, and he was Fcuking useless, blaming this that and everything. Fortunately the Cnut gave up and fucked off. It's going into a larger electricians premises after the bank holiday. It's kinda unfortunate that it's nothing I've done wrong, cos then I'd see the problem and fix it! Won't be on MO's either. Escort is the main car - will spend on the orion once the escort is done
Guest Escort671
holy snap man.... so how long has the engine swap off taken... lol... and yes I read through every page..... some of us across the water can swap engines in a matter of hours... well depending on how much it is I have been drinking it looks like quite a project cant wait to see it rolling
Ex-Finesse
Contrary to popular belief over here, this hasnt just been a 2.0L conversion. It's a conversion to the 2.0L engine, a later gearbox, and using the 2.0L inlet manifold, all on a 1993 car. The wiring looms changed around 1995, so doing this conversion on a later 95- car is easy, it really is plug and play. This one, however, has had many differences. I've done it slow and corrected everything which needed doing. I have used a fair few parts from my 1998 car to do the conversion! As soon as this electrical fault is sorted out, it's time to give it death Glad the topic made interesting reading, mate!

Guest Escort671
sounds awesome bro We have a TON of interswappability between our american scorts....and the ERST manifold bolts right up so I think there's some swappability across the waters... but a lot of your stuff is RHD right??? Muzz
All of it is RHD .
Ex-Finesse
RHD in Britain, LHD on mainland Europe Rob - IT'S ALL Fcuking BACK TOGETHER Dare I say this but: Half of you would have given up or bodged it.
Scotteh
Dare I say this but: Half of you would have given up or bodged it. or just given some geezer a brown envelope with money in, to do it and have it back within a week Edited April 9, 2006 by Scotteh
Ex-Finesse
Yeh, but considering the only people I trust to work on my car are myself and my Dad, and I do have the capabilties to do it myself, then I will. Just because a 2.0L engine is sitting in an engine bay doesn't mean the conversion is perfect. There were a couple of minor issues with mine when I got it back last July when I had the 2.0L put in the escort, such as a twisted P/S hose.
