i own a 1990 mk5 escort and was wondering what the little red light means by the clock when u turn the ignition on,but goes out after about 15 secs.any sugestions

im guessing, its the chip thats in the key (the little red square) once thats in....interal immobiliser or someshit, that lite flashes, cause i tested this once with my petrol cap key that fits into the ignition and turns it, the light doesn't come on, and the car doesn't start even tho it ticks over trying to start until the deadning sound comes on that your battery is getting flat...
