How hard is it to convert my 94 mk5b escort to have PAS.......

i spoke to a guy in a garage, and he said if theres no place for it on my car, then im screwed......then said i was looking at big money to convert the car to PAS, as id probably need to run hoses from the radiator to cool it down etc....

can the ones with knoledge on this just hit me with some facts/info about it, will it fit? what price am i looking at for the conversion, and the parts!

cheers :-)

IMO things like this are more trouble and more money than theyre worth.

I had a Mk5 before my Mk6 and I wanted to get leccy windows, PAS, even a dash transplant!

Best thing to do is just get a new car with these things. Its better to do that in the long run IMO mate.

so you think i should just give up me motor ( www.livicruising.com/pics look at the mine*.jpg's) and buy one with PAS?

i dont think so! lol....i just spent just over 5k on my motor, and wont trade it in for one with pas when i can just get it added..... :P

PAS is a must imo especially for the roads in scotland, theres some roads that are so tight and and bendy that pas would help a great deal, and it will also give me enjoyment in driving my car ;)

Wyn, can you give us some details mate! i.e. pricing on these parts, if you can gather them, and if you know any knowledge on my model, mk5b 1994, i.e. wether theres a place for my pas, or if im gonna need to run hoses from the radiator etc...

Oh! Didnt realize you spent that much on it, in that case you should keep it!

And when hes done it successfully, then I will get it done as well!

:D

i got PAS on my scort mate, still sitting out the front!

if you can take all the parts off and put a price tag on them mate, you'd need to post them, as im a good 600 miles away from you.....thats if you dont sell them, id buy them after xmas and new year if you still needed a buyer

Pelles why do you want power steering mate?.......you say for the 'twistes' in Scotland.PAS is really only useful for town/on the spot parking.Once on the move the amount of assistance is minimal, twistes or not.

If you had larger wheels and lower profile tyres then this is more likely the reason for a 'heavy' feel to the steering.

My advice mate,is save your money and time, don't waste it on second hand PAS.

If you was that bothered about PAS why did you buy a car without it?

Choice is yours........i know what i'd do. Al.

its my first car mate, i haven't any experiance in buying cars, next one ill know.....

as for pas, well aswell aslot of bendy roads, there is alot of town/city to negiotiate too....i stay right smack in the middle of Glasgow and Edinburgh....i just wanted it so the steering would be lighter and id enjoy the drive more, especially with what ive done to the car, instead of dreading when it comes to parking, as i need to do alot of tight parkings.

im glad mines got p/s cos when its not on n i try to move the car a bit stearing is dreadful
