basskiddanny
Hi mate if my wheels are catching when i got down a bumpy road with passengers in the back, could it be because the cossie wheels are wider that average escort ones? My car is only dropped 35mm w/ Uprated shocks and people with 17's dropped 60mm supposedly have no problems. I can have problems with just two people in the back on a bumpy road and something is catching. I really doubt its the bumper and sound like its coming from the wheel arches, Would rolling the arches help with this? You seem to be one of the few people who know much about it on here? Are there any downsides to it and what would all the advantages be? You can't roll front arches can you? Or am i wrong? lol. CheersDan
Craig855S
i had outer rear arch scrubbage on my old car dad when i was 4 up (standard low spec suspension) so i got the rear arch lips cut and treated to prevent rust (look under the arch and u'll see it points in towards the tyre) Then i lowered it and it never got anywhere near as it was so stiff that even with 4 up it wasnt as low as 4 up on standard suspension.Never saw scrubbage again.Problem with cossie wheels is they protrude from the arch,so the arch comes down on top of the wheel when ur 5 up,not down the sides of the tyre Ill do a pic for u %5BIMG%5Dhttp%3A//img.photobucket.com/albums/v624/scoop2004/tyres.jpg[/img] Get what i mean?? i had outer rear arch scrubbage on my old car dad when i was 4 up (standard low spec suspension) so i got the rear arch lips cut and treated to prevent rust (look under the arch and u'll see it points in towards the tyre) Then i lowered it and it never got anywhere near as it was so stiff that even with 4 up it wasnt as low as 4 up on standard suspension.Never saw scrubbage again.Problem with cossie wheels is they protrude from the arch,so the arch comes down on top of the wheel when ur 5 up,not down the sides of the tyre Ill do a pic for u Get what i mean?? basskiddanny
Yes i know they stick out more mate Its what i like about them lol. on that lip you are talking about i have a bit of rust so in about a week it is getting that sorted, but if rolling the arches would help ill get it done at the same time. I don't even know whats done to roll an arch Or how it looks different.
Ex-Finesse
Dan, rolling an arch is all about pushing the protruding arch lip up so it protrudes less. Do a topic search about this, as we had a good topic about it back early 2005 or end 2004! Link it to this when you're done Yes, you can roll front arches in the same fashion. It's best to roll rather than cut on an escort as the rear lips have spot welds on them holding 2 large panels together!
PeeWee
I think the rolling consists of basically having the lip folded up & against the arch instead of having the lip sticking in if you get me, any competent garage should be able to do it without fuss mate. sortedford
if the wheels stick out the arch (which is a mot fail if there fussy) rolling i doubt will sort it much, id stick a load of the spring assistors in (the rubber bits meant for use when towing caravans)
