Redsquirrel
I am hooking all the leads up today, but can not seem to be able to push the battery lead through the interior so that i can connect to the battery? Do I have to drill a hole? I hope not... I have Mk6 escort. Thanks
Pelles
you can drill a hole...i think thats what Ian done (cheater) as simon told me over the phone theres a hole on the inner arche, you have to jack the car up, take the wheel off (passengers side), unscrew the plastic bit off (i think) and take that off, i think he said u may need to use a bit of force due to rust etc, once thats off, you will see a hole where some wires run upto the engine.... as i say mate i think, thats where it is for the mk5b
F1ACK
on mine I didn't take wheel off or anything, just went in the passanger footwell there was a rubber grommit, I made a hole in that with a screw driver and attached the wire to a flexy but strong (not really bendy) stick and pushed it through till it popped out in the engine bay, easy as that, (although make sure the rubber gromits in firmly as I went through a flood recently and it gave way and water pured in from the arch ) the its a case of pulling the trim up and feeding it along the car to the boot (or where ever)
McRic
Tidiest way is just to drill a single hole just behind the battery. Make sure you fit a grommit before putting the wire in as vibration can cause the sharp metal to cut through the casing of the wire. Then run the wire under the sill cover you can do this without taking them off with a bit of gentle persuasion. Remember and run your R.C.A leads along the opposite side as they can interfere with the live cable. A bit more info than u asked for but I hope it helps. Redsquirrel
Yeah thanks for the tips guys it will have to wait till tommorrow. Basically, the interior "side skirt" took a bit to get out, and my mate ended up snapping off. So we had to go to the scrap yard to get a new one. They didnt have one for mk6 escort so had to get a orion one instead as it was quite simular. Anyway fixed it all up, turned out its a little bit different - mainly the seat belt section. Had to cut away at the flaps, to get the seat belt flowing freely. By accident cut a bit too much off, and its not as secure as it should be but still works. Ill have to go to another scrap yard some point in the future to get a probably mk6 one. tommorrow ill do the right side (RCA cables) and then the battery stuff.. thanks again all

As long as you havn't cracked the top of the trim, just drill a small hole next to the original gap, and us self tappers to secure it. As said above the best way is to drill a new hole behind the battery for the cable and use some silicone sealer aswell or instead of a grommet, unless you want a soggy floor. cossiecab
Yeah It'll come through at the top of the footwell, but drill it from the engine bay. Dont forget the silicone!!
RRX
i have got mine running thought the same hole as the speedo cable, this is behinf the wiper motor and has a grommet with a hol in it already for the speedo, It comes out just above the steering columb and needs a bit of fiddling but saves drilling holes
sortedford
we done mine with a hole saw, not a drill through behind where the battery is, would be about in the middle of the battery, everythings fine with it, comes out behind the dash, but u can just about get your hand to where it is and it drops down easy enough
Redsquirrel
laid the RCA cables down the drive side today, again my mate broke the trim. Ah well it will have to do till i can be bothered to get another one. Umm, regarding connecting to the battery we tried but no luck. Is that grommet a big black thing with wires going in it? I tried prising it off, but gave up in the end. Ill try sometime soon.
