Posted May 7, 200618 yr Right then I ahve just got myself a second amp to match the original so both subs can have their own amp. What is the best way to wire them up to the power source. They are both 800w max. Do i connect them up with 4 guage wire to a ditribution block and run an 8 guage wire to each? Should each unit be earthed seperatly? ie. not through a distribution block. This will be my project at work during the lunch hour
May 7, 200618 yr personally mate id run the lives from both amps str8 to the battery with fuses in line so u can easily access them put the negatives str8 to the body to earth em then run then sub line down to em from headunit n then put in the 2 sets of rca leads u need
May 7, 200618 yr I had both mine running off a distribuiton block and then to ground cables running to a distribution block and then earthed. 0guage to 4 on the positive and 4 to 0 from amp to earth.
May 7, 200618 yr Author I wouldnt need 0 awg though would I I have two of these amps. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=9721660889
May 8, 200618 yr Author cheers I worked it out properly at lunch time today working from the fuse rating etc
May 9, 200618 yr Scooter thats a stupid way of doing it! As said before, get a fused disty block for lives and a plain disty for earth, so they both earth at same point.
May 11, 200618 yr Have 4 Gauge coming through from the engine bay and going into a distribution block with 8 guage going to each of the amps. The 8 guage should have an in-line fuse next to the battery and then the distribution block should be fused as well so its nice and safe. Earth the amps seperately using 8 guage and preferably using an existing earth point on the car. I used the one for the rear lights. Run 1 remote lead from the head unit and then split it near the amps using either a bullet connector or a piggy back connector. Then run 2 seperate sets of RCA leads from the head unit and you'll be laughing. That's how I did my system in both my old car and the one I have at the mo. Works a treat. Hope this helps.Tim
May 11, 200618 yr Author The only thing im going to do different is the amps have an RCA output so will daisy chain them up
