Craig855S
HOw do u check how much gear oil u have in ur box. When i changed my engine nothing came out of the bottom when i had the shafts out,but i thought the shafts went into a compartment seperate from the oil(a compartment filled with CV joint grease stuff) but if its not a seperate compartment then why didnt anything come out, maybe its empty, shud i drain it and fill it up with new stuff?and how do u do that? Muzz
There is no dipstick on the box, so you need to undo the 6mm (I think) allen key bolt on the front of the gearbox and have a look inside at the level. Generally you should top it up until it is level with the hole, if it isnt, then I would suggest topping it up. Also the shafts go straight into the gearbox and once removed, box oil should Pee out everywhere. If it hasnt than the chances are it was probably fairly empty!! For reference, you want to be using 75/90 when refilling the gearbox oil.
Craig855S
would that explain a slight scratching noise when the clutch is depressed? or has the gearbox oil got nothing to do with the clutch? ive alwasyt hort the scratchin noie was a release bearing issue, even tho the clutch bites well. So,IB5. where is this allen key bolt, and is it easy to see into the oil level without using jacks, and where do u pour the oil in? could i do it with the car on the floor and without getting under it, i bought the oil when i done the engine change

To check the level, undo the nut and put your finger in and bend your finger down. If you get gear oil on your finger, then the level is fine, if not, then put some gear oil in that same hole, until it starts dribbling back out, then that means it's full. Checking it only takes 5 minutes and you don't need to jack it up.
Craig855S
the van may use the MTX. Ive searched IB5 and found some unconvincing results.not only is the wrong oil mentioned (halfords table said 80w90,which i bought) it also mentions that the IB5 has no fill hole or drain hole and is "FORD sealed for life"
