SiScort
The back end has been debadged since and looks a lot cleaner, just the star left in the centre, it accents the spoiler a lil more because it is a bit too subtle. I must say though I'm quite disappointed with the car, I've had it since new (took delivery at new year) and the front tyres are both bold on the outside edge, the wheels are unmarked and I havent hit anything to knock the tracking out, I noticed this after 5k miles its now done 7.5k and merc will do nothing about it despite it being in time and time again for various things, they expect me to stand £150 a corner and insist it is tracking (which they also expect me to pay for). I also had a problem with warped brakes, groaning, squeaking, sticking and sever brake fade, after again several inspections and hurrendous attitudes from the bloke in the service department who claimed they were fine (even though they previously agree'd to stand the brake discs but I'd have to pay £150 for the pads... hmm.... arent they pretty much accepting liability there if they're offering to replace discs yet they still want my money?) Anyway, after failing to stop on a motorway slip road I decided enough was enough and took it back again for the same fault and told them what had happened. I arrived to collect the car when they said I could and they hadnt even looked at it, they made me wait for an hour with their shite attitudes and even asked me where the car was because they "cant find it". It was in their car park, i one of their service parking spaces, good eh?. After being a complete and utter knob, ignoring what I was telling him and not writing any of the symptoms down to help the technician (ie when it happens) he fobbed me off and royally pee'd me off until finally a mechanic there decided that yes there is a fault and it needs a new brake master cylinder so I bet he felt a right dick admitting that to me!. In the seven months I've had it there's also been an SRS fault that required a new seatbelt buckle and a new parking brake setup after the back brakes locked on on my way to work (they dont have a conventional handbrake) plus the already mentioned problem with the tyres, needless to say I will be defecting either back to BMW or to Audi at the end of this year! Would I have another? dont be so stupid! If I wanted a car to f*ck up I'd spend half as much on a focus
Lee R
the Focus is one of the most reliable cars you could buy btw awesome Merc, love it. I read bits and bobs, but remind me what plan you have it on and how you afford it etc? some sort of lease thing wernt it?
SiScort
i work in car sales myself and so we get good discounts on new cars, in the last quarter of 2005 i managed to scrounge an 8% and £2000+vat discount (totals roughly £4.5k) and so that gave me a headstart against depreciation, I then put a grand deposit down so thats a £5.5k headstart and then I've taken it on a 4 year lease purchase so basically I own the car from day one and by taking it over four years with a final payment set lower than the cas future trade CAP calue it will also have low monthly payments. I pay £310 a month all in and plan on keeping it a total of 12 months so basically after that time I will have: an initial 4.5k saving + my 1k deposit + around 3.5k paid off in finance which totals 9k. the cars list price is 26k - 9k = 17k + finance interest so as confusing as this will sound basically at one year old in december my settlement figure will be around 17.5k (which is lower than the vehicles value) and so I can in effect sell the car and either stand to break even and walk away or even have anything realistically upto about £2000 to come back if I'm lucky. I've based it so that worst case scenario I trade the car on through one of our traders at work and get Shite money for it but I still break even. If I sell it privately I will make a bit back. It'll cost me about £4.5k to have for the year if I sll the car for the sam as the settlement, yes a lot of money but if I was a retail customer buying the car outright without the same discount even without finance interest they would lose more through depreciation than what this has cost me, its just the joys of expensive cars. I see it in the way that I'm young, insurance doesnt like fast cars and I'll have a mortgage in a few years so why not enjoy myself while I can? £4.5k is a lot to spend in a year on a car but in a year my escort stood me at around 9k plus little bits. At least with the merc I dont have to worry about the little things, MOT's and services because by the time I sell it it still wont be due its first service the Focus is one of the most reliable cars you could buy btw PS. I beg to differ, used to work at ford as a mechanic PMSL but to be fair I left before the mk2's were brought in And sorry about my spelling btw, laptop is painful
sortedford
least yours goes our first one wouldnt start half the time, wouldnt unlock from the remote, lazer key didnt work, normal key didnt work, usually only worked when they turned up with the low loader to take it back had so many new bits it must have been a new car electically. Traded it in on a new one, kept it for about 3k then sold it
Lee R
if you used to work at Ford's, of course all you'll see is Fords ya daft sod. fair play to ya for enjoying it while you can, you seem a 'real world' kind of chap Is ya insurance on top of that lease? wish i'd done summat like this rather than throwing my money at modding cars just to lose it all. Still, I had fun too
SiScort
haha quality, I wouldnt have another after this, the build quality doesnt compare to my old BM e46 coupe, definitely going to go down the 3 series route next car or an a4 quattro or new shape TT dependant on insurance, really fancy a new tt but in a 2.0t quattro dsg which wont be released for quite a while but I dont wanna wait around. the initial models are a 2.0t front wheel drive and 3.2 quattro. i wouldnt get insured on the 3.2 and I dont want front wheel drive so its a catch 22 really. I'm seriously considering a new white 3 series coupe with csl rims, slightly darkened windows and beige leather, ive got a photoshop knocking about ill see if i can dig it out.... if you used to work at Ford's, of course all you'll see is Fords ya daft sod. fair play to ya for enjoying it while you can, you seem a 'real world' kind of chap Is ya insurance on top of that lease? wish i'd done summat like this rather than throwing my money at modding cars just to lose it all. Still, I had fun too yeah insurance is on top, its not a lease as such, its a purchase scheme so its basicaly a loan but with it being against an asset its a better rate than a personal loan (2.99% flat rate) insurance is another £100 a month so it all stacks up but next time round im going to pay my insurance annually and spent the full £400 a month on a car and go balls out and start modding there she is! beauty that photoshop is basedon an SE model so imagine that on a sport so a subtle lip spoiler and slightly deeper bumpers, proper toy
Craig855S
looks nice.shame it always breaks, but lots of new cars do that. (too many things to go wrong) something thats always bugged me.......WTF does "kompressor" mean. Does it signify a turbo? does it signify diesel? does it signify turbo diesel? or is it simply a special edition ?(such as "freedom")
SiScort
nope, a kompressor is a supecharger. they make a 180 and 200 kompressor, used to make a 230 but it was replaced with a N/A V6 in the latest models. Basically the 180k, 200k and 230k are all the same 1.8 supercharged engine but in different stes of tune. the 180 retains a 10:1 compression ratio like a typical N/A car, the 200k and 230k have an 8:1 compression ratio. I went for the 180 for this reason, not only is it cheapest to insure and the cheapest to buy but if i decided to keep it and mod it, kleemann make a tuning box thats about a grand and will take it to 193 hp, the same output as the 230k but with it having the 10:1 comp ratio it'll be torquier and in practice quicker while retaining a reasonable MPG on normal driving (plus a 230 would be a good few grand more than a 180 so by doing that mod alone you save a lot of money and have a quicker car) edit: meant to say "different states of tune" stupid laptop again! Craig855S
so what does 180 200 and 230 mean if theyre all 1.8s? is that the BHP figures of the respective models??
McRic
Every Merc owner I have spoken too has said the shape I got was the last of the 'good' Mercs, its a shame really as the build quality/reliablity used to be second to none. I've yet to find a new Merc owner who hasn't had hastle with there car
SiScort
so what does 180 200 and 230 mean if theyre all 1.8s? is that the BHP figures of the respective models?? not a clue mate, its not relative to the power outputs, I assume it was probably relating to the very first C class's that were probably 1.8, 2.0 and 2.3 and then replaced by this for better efficiency or something? not a clue fella but dont waste your money on a merc lol
