Graeme
well - as im sure most of you are aware the past few months have been rather bad for me sitting at my desk at work the other day in the sweltering heat and thought long and hard and ive decided that the line of work im in just isnt me - ok the money is good, but no job satifaction what so ever... so after talking to many people and getting as much information as i can ive decided that im going to join up the army - and do IT/Comms interlligence, so i can use my IT support skills and finally be in a job that i will have a purpose for. Had all my introduction pack through the other day and the more i look and think about it - the more i feel its right for me. Most people moan about the training - well im a rather fit person 10hrs + per week of exercise and running around and doing combat training is right up my street! So next step - ive got my interview this coming wednesday - wish me luck G

Craig855S
mate im in the RAF and let me tell ya, the basic training (which was 7 weeks for RAF when i joined up,now 9 for RAF) was THE BEST 7 weeks of my life,id go thru it again for fun.so dont worry about that. as for ur job there is little to no chance of u ever being on the front line o u dont need to think about using a gun in REAL life anyway, yes u will use a gun in training and yes u will have to do qualification shoots every year to stay current. Be aware tho the stuff u learn when ur an intellegence person in the army cant be told to ANYONE (i know an intel analyst in the RAF who was discharged cos he had a big mouth, and he'd only been in a year) Im privvy to cryptographic items in my job in the RAF and i cant say owt about what they are/do etc or my ass will be for the spanking (however the information can be found on the internet easily) (for the system that uses crypto not the actual encryption codes or techniques)
james16v
hello mate i am in the army and yes in the packets it does sound good i ve been in for six year and i hate it and so does most of my mates which are in , i am severing with the 1 st bt coldstream guards and this time last year i was in iraq , were one of my mates got killed, like i say i ve been in for six years and the army has nt giving me any thing for it , i ve tried getting on courses and things like that but the army in genral are just so undermaned and you will find yourself aspecially being involed with computers just staging on for most of contract , oh which is a four year one and you cant get out untill you have done that four year , but if you like getting talk to and treat like Shite with no time at home then its up to you , my only advise would be to go to a regiment that is based not to far where you live
Twisted Tenderness
many a true words spoken above!..... Ive got 3 mates who were in the Army and they said it was the worse time in there lives.... (one of them has brain damage now, which makes him talk slow) after he was hit in Ireland by the IRA. Not content in shooting him they then run over him in the car that he was trying to stop. geordie_aaron
not fancy the RAF opposed to the army? it's less degrading to you as a person and perhaps more money and better career aspets?!

sortedford
interesting opinions, i too was looking at joining the army in the last week as it offers good pay and packages, but it seems most people dont enjoy it at all?do any of you know people who are above the rank of a fighting soilder? and do they enjoy it? Craig855S
what i said above was true IMO. But thinking about it now, not a lot of people enjoy the RAF. There are times when i really really Fcuking hate it,but most of the time i work a 9 hour day shift or ? hour night shift 5 or 4 days respectively with a few gash days off here and there. Ive travelled a tad and done some things that u'd never do as a civie. Do i regret joining? noDo i want to leave? not partcularlyWhat would make me leave? finding a job that pays more for same or less work (which is nigh on impossible)Go for intel analyst in the RAF mate, same thing, same money, just better people IMHO

Im joining the Navy as a pilot..well thats the plan, done two POAC courses and another course which gave me my 17 hours flying experience on Sea King's. I do currently do an office job, but thats only to tide me over while I do my degree. I also turned down a very persuasive package from the company I currently work for to work for them when I have finished University. Currently all signs point to go, just need to do my AIB which will be tough..but hey, i think im good enough. If not, ill try the RAF. If I cant do either of them then Quantity Surveying it is
