Decomp plates

You don't really need ARP bolts unless you're going above standard rev limit, but it's good security given the additional stresses.

Rob, you need to be looking at forged pistons at those power levels, unless you want a drag engine, which'll only be under load for brief spells.

You won't need a decomp plate if you get forged pistons and have them machined to the correct CR (IRO 8:1).

It's not a case of standard pistons can't take XXX bhp. They have been proven to take 250bhp, maybe more, but for what time I don't know. Fact is more power = MUCH more heat, and I would put money on std. pistons failing quickly when you have a long motorway thrash, with constant boost and heat even with power levels not exceeding 200bhp.

You need management with a MAP sensor.

MTX box will stuggle at 240bhp, but will last for a while.

I presume by Rob, you meant Ralph.

As I said, std. internals can take high horsepower. This must be for drag purposes though, or for people you simply don't know how to drive hard.

Std. internals are strong, yes, but factor in the kind of cylinder temps you will see at 240bhp, they will be weakened and I beleive they will break.

When I have the time and inclination, I'll build one of these cheap ZT things

Theres nothing wrong with using a decomp plate with standard internals.. the rods are fine.. the crank is fine.. the pistons should be okay.. more importantly is how compromised you make the rest of the system.. if you use a decent turbocharger and get someone decent to map the car, then it'll be fine.. but a set of Vauxhall pistons for 300 quid shouldn't be ignored..

Have a peep at my guide for more info.. http://turbo.me.uk
