dansGTI
You all know the car im talking about, its a 1998 Escort GTI in white............The car was smoking badly and running like a bag of Shite when i bought it. Ive given it a full service, and it is running better. Plug 1 and 3 were black, 2 and 4 were okay. Oil resembled tar........ Now the car still smokes, but runs better. It still sits at 90mph okay, and is okay under normal loads. But wehen you cane it, it smokes quite a bit (not as bad, but still bad) The smoke is not blue, it is more whiteish grey. And boy does it stink of petrol! Car is also crap on mpg and is using a huge amount of fuel. Breather hoses are okay, oil level is fine (its not burning it). Lambda sensor is still there and looks okay. It idles like a dog from cold too. When warm its okay (just a bit high, 1200rpm). I decided to take it to 3 garage to find out exactly what im looking at: Here are their responses: Garage 1: He reckons the smoke is a mixture of steam and the car is running rich due to the DECAT. He says put the CAT back in. Garage 2: He says its the rings. Dont waste your time and get another engine from a scrappers. Garage 3: (FORD garage): Reckons either the stem seals, or the CAT needs putting back in. Whilst it was up there, he noted that all is not well with other things..............................but im ignoring this for now. OPINIONS PLEASE ON THE PROBLEM??? I DUNNO WHAT TO DO! IM NOT SPENDING HARDLY ANY MORE MONEY ON THIS THING! IF ITS NOT THE CAT, ITS GETTING STRIPPED, IVE HAD ENOUGH. ITL BE AN RS2000 4X4 OR I'LL SAVE UP AND GET THE ESC COS I ALWAYS WANTED. scouse
at a guess id say option 3 the stem seals but if you still have the cat stick it back on and see then try the seals
