may i just say that i your car looks mint.

anyway have you really got a 2.1l turbo zetec under the bonnet and if so could you tell me if you have uprated the gear box, clutch and drive shafts cos mine is kickin out about 170bhp with nos and so far ive snapped a drive shaft burnt a clutch out after 10k but thats been up rated now. but im scared that the gear box is the next thing that is going to pop

any advice would be much appreciated

also with that engine wot horse power have you got?

Hi m8. The engine is currently being built at BSW and should be dropped in by the end of Feb. Before it was a 1.8 zetec turbo but on standard machined pistons which are only really ok for low boost set-ups hence me meltin one when the boost got turned up! (the 1.8 wasnt done by BSW it was by another local garage who claimed they could do the job properly but failed!(long story)) At low boost it was probally makin sommat like 150 -160bhp and was pretty quick, but soon got bored with that and got the garage in question to turn up the boost and re-map it and it lasted a whole 100 miles before it died!! Guessing it had around 180+bhp and was very quick if not a little dangerous! anyway big fallout, rantin n ravin prommissed they could put it right but I didnt want to risk them gettin it wrong again so went and met Mark talked through what I wanted and seemed like a good time to up capacity and Roberts your fathers brother. Cant wait till its done.

Regarding the gearbox I'm using a uprated rebuilt RS turbo jobbie (cus of the s/diff) but have been warned that it'll pobally break too if given death, but we'll have to see. The original gearbox fell to bits before the boost was even turned up! I'm afraid there are'nt many alternatives for gearboxes unless you wanna stump up a grand for a Quaife :jaw:

The clutch is an AP paddle clutch so shouldnt cause any probs.

What power??

Dont know yet but well over 200bhp. A similar engine that BSW have built has recently been dynoed at 250bhp @ only 14psi, with 300lbft tourque! Which is more than enough for a FWD escort, even though the potential for 300bhp+ is there!

Have you got a progressive controller for your NOS cus if not this could be the reason you've had problems as the power will be coming in with a bang causing massive strain on parts.

This could also be the prob with the driveshafts cus I know of a 2.1 turboed fiesta with well over 300bhp that gets given some proper grief on the standard shafts and he hasnt had any issues with them.

Hope this helps, nice motor BTW.

RST boxes can be had for anything from £150 2nd's up to £350+ or more with uprated bearings etc...

As for the cost of the the new motor, Mark @BSW is doin me a good deal, my 1.8 exchange for a 2.0l out of a focus £80 for the bore a bit of labour. The pistons and rods are the expensive parts working out at around 1K, but you get what you pay for. Standard rods are apparantly ok to around 260 -280bhp but I aint riskin it. Gaskets, bearings etc... prob about 1.5K for it all fitted, bearing in mind I allready have the turbo, IC, Injectors, management etc... which all adds up to quite a bleedin lot! But if your serious, and I am this is the sort of set-up to go for.

300 bhp kills RS Turbo boxes for dinner! Quaife is the way to go ........but very expensive.

IMO............what is the point of 300 bhp on a FWD car? You can never get the power down , that's in the dry,in the wet forget it. RWD or 4WD is the only way to launch. Al.

In some ways agree but with the right suspension mods, wide tyres, a good diff, a good ballance of tourque and bhp and the management plus carefull throttle control theres no reason why a FWD cant put the power down.(oh and the launch control) Big power and RWD drive aint much better and 4 x 4 is best of the line but then loses loads on the move! So unless you've got a 500bhp 4 x 4 you cant win! We'll just have to wait and see!

Paul Ripleys 2.1 fezzie turbo;

0 - 60 in 4.8 secs

0-100 in 11.3 secs aint to be sniffed at. Thats supercar performance in a FWD.

Sunnys 2.1 Fezzie turbo. Got vids of him beatin a 500bhp cossie and skyline over 500m

Also that mental maestro FWD 350 - 400bhp 12.2 second 1/4. That would whup most cossies, jap crap etc...

not to mention the R5GTT boys who are constantly into the 13's for the 1/4.

before mine wouldnt spin the wheels unless I was drivin like a Cnut.

FWD will never be the ultimate compared to the big power cossie/evo/skyline etc.. boys but that game costs tens of thousands.

On a well set up car (all round) theres no reason why FWD with 300bhp+ cant be a weapon, as I'm sure will be made apparant this year as there quite a few lads doin the same sort of thing that I know of.

Hopin to be m8! But wanna get some practice in first when its finally done. I dont expect it to set the 1/4 mile allight but should be in the low 14's possibly even 13's if I get it right.

The 1/4 mile dont really bother me its just fun, its on the move when it surprises people! The likes of big power boys and GTiR's, R5's etc... usually do the best. Allthough when I went a couple of weeks ago there was a Toyota Starlet with Pinto engine runnin low 13's!

And no ones touchin the 11 - 12 sec big boys.
