Bryan Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 I've been given an old Orion with this alarm fitted and I need the wiring diagram/installation manual or list of circuits it disables in order to figure out the wiring so that I can transfer it over to my newer Orion... Any ideas guys? Thanks,Bryan.
Chrissyboy Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 is it a cat 1 alarm or just an argos jobbie?? its gonna be easier to follow the wiring run yourself
Bryan Posted February 23, 2003 Author Posted February 23, 2003 It's a CAT 1 professionally installed alarm and I have tried following the wires back but I can't figure out what some of the circuits in the Orion go to... It would be very handy to have a list of outputs from the alarm system.
Chrissyboy Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 well thats the idea of a cat 1 alarm mate, it aint easy to take out or over-ride. you may find alot if not all of the wires are the same colour and if its done properly it will be easier to get another one that take it out of your old one
Bryan Posted February 23, 2003 Author Posted February 23, 2003 But I can't see the point of spending £300+ on a system that does the same thing when I already have this one and could fit it if I just had a wiring diagram of some sort. Even if I knew which features of the car it disables that would do because I could match the colours from the car wiring diagrams. Another slight complication is that I want to put it into a turbo diesel instead of another petrol like it's coming from. Don't suppose any of you guys work in an alarm fitting place?
Mk6 Si Ross Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Laserline have got a site but its Italian and the UK version of the site doesn`t seem to want to load http://www.laserline.it
Chrissyboy Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 some cat 1's have a few cut off point, ie ignition and fuel pump. saying that I dont think you will get a wiring diagram cos they would be stupid telling everyone a wiring diagram on a cat 1 alarm!!!! you could be a criminal for all they know
Lee R Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 yeah, rip it out. The company who make Clifford do a very decent budget range of alarms, from £160 to £300 fitted
Bryan Posted February 23, 2003 Author Posted February 23, 2003 Well I aint giving up.... I will get it into my car somehow!! Just need to set aside a good long day and park the two motors beside each other. Being Fords it shouldn't be too hard.... I shall keep you posted!
Paulo Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 im doin it with mine, but its slow progress, and u gotta have some sorta experience i reckon. it wont be worth gettin a pro to do the switch it will be cheaper to get a new alarm. however, if you MUST do it yourself give it a go. ive taken the old alarm out, and worked out which wire does what so it should pop in okay into the new car...
Chrissyboy Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 I put an alarm in my brothers car years ago and when I wired it in i made sure all the wires were taped together with other wires with insulation tape. it took me a few reels but it was worth it. couldnt be arsed to untape it all when he sold it!!!
JonC Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 i put an alarm in my astra, took 4 hours and the skin of a few knuckles, ive got plans for a clifford alarm with remote start, a button for headlamps and neons and a boot open button so i can flush the tailgate easily, plus the arm/disarm butons my dads got a similar thing all installed cost him 300£ that was with the old alarm being removed as well in a bmw 328i soft top I reckon the bloke will fit mine for 240ish if im lucky, and if he leaves me a wire in a certain place i can hook it up to the neons feed when i get them...
Bryan Posted February 23, 2003 Author Posted February 23, 2003 Well I spent most of today starting it... I took the entire dash out of the 1.6 Orion for handyness sake. I have cleared all the wires from the alarm but not cut any yet. I have just to label it all and figure out which wires are what. May as well give it a shot. Only problem being the 1.6 Orion has to drive afterwards so it must be put back together again so I can use it as an occasional track car. Bryan.
