JonC Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Ive noticed my car does some funky Shite at 6500rpmwhen im really hammering it hard it does this funny kinda splutter and backfire at 6500rpmive spoken to tobyG about it and he says his does something similar at that high rpm is it a limiter to protect the lump? ive done it in 2nd and 3rd a few times and once in 4th and on a large downhill bit of motorway i did it in 5th.... is this normal? other people get this? :madbugger: :tongue:
McRic Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 tis the limiter mate so you can't over rev but don't think it will stop all damage as you're pushing your car to the limit every time you hit it.

Colin Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 Ive read before that the Zetecs can rev up to 7250, but its not really recemmend unless you have the approate chip and throttle bodie setup. Im sure that you could do it, but 9000 rpm? Doubt it. The st170 only hits 7500, and the VVTI (varible vale timing as seen on the Puma etc) kicks in at 6000 rpm, so i doubt it..............

There was an mk4 cab with a 1800 zetec running carbs or throttle bodies which reved to 9000 rpm in Fast ford a while back ill have alloik for it
