Colin Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 What year is E? WE dont work it like that over here, in Northern Ireland.
jp Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 i think 'E' is '88-'89 and the standard turbo has about 132bhp and does 0-60 in about 8.5 and a top speed of 130mph not bad for standard and soooo easy to make it quicker
Waxmonkey Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 I believe 'E' reg is 1987-1988. One owned 2 'E' reg cars, a Sierra and a Golf which were ace.
Twisted Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 E is 1987 - 88All Escort RS Turbo's push out 130bhp only the Fiesta Turbo pushes out 132bhpD/V wont make it any quicker, what other mods has it got?
GTsI Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 I think you are wrong mate, an escort rs turbo pushes out 132 bhp as standard and the fiesta turbo pushes out 133 bhp as standard (cos the fiesta uses a different ECU system). And the fiesta has NO limited slip diff either......... The dump valve is not needed unless a large amount of boost pressure is used.
Twisted Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 seems we've read different books then lolthe Fiesta also has a different block and turboI've run a dump valve on my RS Turbo's and my Cosworth and never noticed any difference (Cosworths come with a recirculating dump valve as standard)
RS RUDEBOY Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 the series 2 pushes out 133 bhp standard and the series 1 pushes 132 for some reason, as for the dump valve , well it doesnt give you anymore power! a dump valve works like this: the turbo unti has 2 sets of blades, one on the exhaust side of the unitwhich spins up with the exhaust pressure, and another which is spun by the other set to create the pressure needed to get more air into the cylinders.when you take your foot off the throttle the turbo's outlet is shut, meaning that the pressure has no-where to go, but being as the exhaust blades are still spinning pressure is still building up. without anywhere to go the build upwill damage the turbo's blades which is where the dump valve comes in to vent the excess air and release the pressure ! bit boring and technical but hope it helps!
m888arc Posted February 27, 2003 Author Posted February 27, 2003 im not sure wot other mod's its got........just saw aload of graham goode stuff under the hood. they were on about summut like "the overboost" ????? wots that?! CHeers, Marc PS> Dammit, cars faster than mine

Twisted Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 nice bit of techy stuff there I've been tuning my RS's for 9 years that makes me old. In a nut shell it's to stop the turbo stalling/slowing down. But unless your running 400bhp+ it wont help on a cossie and as for the RST, it just sounds cool, alot of reports have stated that a D/V on an RST has slown down the performance Had a d/v on my FRST 1.8 Interpro conversion and it made no difference, same with the Baileys one on my cossie, which is very loud Overboost, well the ECU has a boost limiter pre 1990 will boost to about 8psi post 1990 10.5psi, a chip takes out the boostlimiter or raise's it.My S1 was running ahmed bayjoo stage 1 chip with a boost limit of 17psi although it only run 15psi
m888arc Posted February 27, 2003 Author Posted February 27, 2003 cheers twisted ............. in summery......... it will whip my assss!
Colin Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 Yea, only the Renault Williams would have a hope of keeping up with that thing! Wherent they 150 bhp as standard?
m888arc Posted February 28, 2003 Author Posted February 28, 2003 Heero - the williams has 150bhp as standard yes, there isnt much diff about the 16v and the williams.....as the williams was based on the 16v. all thats diff engine wise is has a 2ltr lump, kickin out about 13+ bhp and has a higher top end speed. same 0-60 according to the books, but obviously alot of it is down to driver. also because of the 2ltr the willy has alot more touque at lower rev's which is where the 16v struggles. Cheers, Marc.
