sidrick
You could spend more than the car is worth repairing that gearbox. Second hand units are dirty cheap as it's more than likely using the older style box used in the 210 chassais 190E. There's thousands of them Mercman - 02380 784444 will have what you need and deliver it to your door. You'll need a box code from the side of the autobox. PC Merc - 020 85565585 are another good source for Merc boxes and diffs.
ScORTED
thanks sidrick! the cars a 1999 - so i'd have thought despite a bit of surface rust and the problem its got to be worth fixing? its been suggested it could be a maf problm though. sidrick
lol, quite a difference! What are the symptoms? The air flow meters on those things are prone to going. They're Seimens pish instead of decent Bosch ones.
ScORTED
If its left to idle till warm it will select drive and go ok, however after a while it slows down and struggles to do 40mph. If its driven from cold it often struggles to go at all. Often if the car is switched off and restarted it will be ok for a bit.
sidrick
Take it to a garage to get it diagnosed. Edited June 24, 2007 by sidrick
ScORTED
Would it be best to take it my local franchised dealer or a specialist? I've been told a few things to try re testing the maf so i'll give that a go first. any idea on the feasability of a manual conversion?
sidrick
Take the AFM off......... see what happens.I wouldn't take it to a dealer. £100+ an hour to tell you what you should already know.I doubt it's the gearbox, if it was limiting you to 40mph, then you'd hear it.You could always change the box oil and see if there's any solids caught up in the filter. Manual? A different prop and possibly diff. linkages and pedals.IF it's the box, an autobox would be simple as fcuk to find. But first you really need to find out what it is Edited June 24, 2007 by sidrick
ScORTED
sure i'll look into it, this is all what i've been told, i'll clean the maf and drive it tomorrow to find out. thankyou for your help sidrick
