DIDZ
yeah it has done 90,000 miles and is "said" to be in very good condition, just serviced with fully service history...father in law had 1 of these and were quite quick wityh plenty of torque. i also think there nice cars.So would u buy 1? it does seem to be a good grand or so cheaper than other mk4's about at mo
sidrick
These engines are good for 3 times that mileage. 90k on a 9 year old car. Seems average to me as well. Edited June 24, 2007 by sidrick
heavyrightfoot
I have just bought an 02 plate Passat with twice as much mileage as that, and it runs perfect with no problems at all
lazy_arse_pie
go for it mate then get a tuning box on it = 170 bhp 250+ lbs torque ! if its the 130 spec as std
DIDZ
cheers m8, actually done 94k(not that it makes a difference). just rang him and cam belt was done at 50k when thay due on these any1 no? wud of thought around 4k ago....he's asking for 3,750 and gonna "sort somthing out for belt" cheap or not? other mk4's seem to be going for 5.5k without the mileage. Problem is when i come to sell it with say 120k will it sell? only thing playing in my head really.
heavyrightfoot
Its a cheap car at that, and dont worry about the mileage when you come to sell it as they sell no problem, at the end of the day I bought mine with 176K, but it has full dealer history. I would also change the tensioner if you change the belt
lazy_arse_pie
also what you will have to remember your buying it cheap so your goin to have to sell it cheaper than the going rate at the time ?
DIDZ
thanks lads, will have to view it and see what i thinks, tis red though, but don't mind red on the golfs.... can't see me owning 1 any other way with a 4 - 4.5k budget... any higher and it makes it hard to save...lol
DIDZ
according to the insurance it's a 110 spec as they didn't do a 130 till after 2001... still do a tuning box for that? what wud the gain be? and any idea on price?
Craig855S
a)mileage means nothing on a diesel, its been well serviced it'll last another 10 years yet with normal servicing,so stop worryingb)all the VAG TDI engines are easily tuned to get loads more torque and good power levels, and AFAIK its "easy" to make the 110spec the 150 spec,so u can have it up to 200BHP and looots of torque
lazy_arse_pie
as scoop said easy to make the 110 a 150 around £350-£

sidrick
The belt needs done now, ideally. If you can get 40bhp out of that engine for £350, then you're a miracle worker. All you can do is up the fuelling manually. A wise man once said, though, 'don't let the truth stand in the way of a good story'. All you can do is up the fuelling manually. A wise man once said, though, 'don't let the truth stand in the way of a good story'. 90 & 110 are different type of TDI to the newer 130 & 150. The newer ones are PD - high pressure injection TDIs which tune up very well but the 110s are tuneable, with a little more work. Diff between 90 & 110 is injectors and turboDiff between 130 & 150 is turbo and mapping - but I've modded both. The new 140 and 170 4 motions are still the older TDI i think
DIDZ
cheers guys, been to see, it's quite tidy very little in the way of scratches, just 1 on mirror and very hard to notice 1 on back bumper. Also has a tow bar fitted which is normally a big no no to me as u never no what it's pulled and how long for. but all in all it's a tidy car. the engine seems in lovely nick with no oil leaks, and still looks very clean, far better than i expected for a 94k er. turned out i new the guy (told ya it's a small island). he was straight up and said it cud do with new tires for rear and the belt of course. All history was in place and has been serviced every 10k bar 1 which it missed for some reason. last service was a few months back and it's taxed till april 08. got him down to £3,450............... seems cheap for all that car. Interior is immaculate aswell.Very tempted but will see wot else is about in next couple of days first.
