Craig855S
The cause?HAd a look by pulling the plastic covers to one side and the cam pulley still has a belt round it that feels pretty solid, the fuel injection pump pulley teeth are bare,no belt round them. and u can see a whole heap of belt under the car,not sure if its from the crank or what as cant see up there.Hopefully its an aux belt that drives the fuel injection pump and not the cambeltHowever, its waterpump related. The waterpump has always leaked a bit when cold and a tiny tiny bit when idling, but when the belt went i stopped, filled up the water (as it was under min) and turned it over, wouldnt start, sounded like an engine trying to start with NO FUEL at all and all the water dissappeared straight away again,so the waterpump is now leaking REALLY badly which wud suggest its been torn out of the block by whatever belt drives it.Anyone able to confirm what belt drives what on a 1995 TD with intercooler. No Air conAnd is it an interfearance engine,if it is the cambelt do the valves have a chance of piston contact,or are they spaced out enough??EDIT: When i turned it over after it died i never knew the belt had gone,i just thought it died to to the lack of water
sidrick
Ooooh, that's a cam belt. Big chance of piston-valve contact. Edited June 27, 2007 by sidrick
JAY~GTI
As above but with trying to turn it over after belt being snapped i would say it has definatly bent valves.

Craig855S
according to microcat pictures, and ebay item descriptions the belt that runs the injection pump is NOT the main timing belt, so i think the cambelt is still intact (i best change it anyway)
Andy 3i
that looks like a cambelt mate, iirc the cambelt runs the injection pump
Nath
see if the cam is moving when turning it over( get some one to do this for you) will get a final awnser
Andy 3i
no need mate, iirc the ONLY toothed belt on those is the cambelt! i done several headgaskets and cambelts on the things

Craig855S
Not the cambelt, hurrah!!! but to solve the waterpump problem ill have to get it a new gasket which will involve replacing the cambelt which means whatever an aux belt and pulleys costs plus 60 quid for the cambelt kit, crap!
