Craig855S
I remember a year ago when i swapped engines i was advised just to unbolt the subframe from the car and the struttops and a few other bits and i could remove the subframe, with the engine gearbox suspension hubs driveshaffts etc all still attatched making the engine change easy, but on escorts it doesnt work like that,so what exactly does the subframe do,and wud a petrol subframe fit in place of a diesel RS subframe. Cos im hating my MTX box
Stu
It's just a sub-frame. It's unique to a specific condition. It means the main shell doesn't have to change for things like gearboxes and engines.
white_van_man
the only difference on your subframe is that it has rear mounting for the mtx gearbox like rs2000/xr3i 130's do

plumber60
Box will, Standard for the majority of Zetec engines...Engine might... havent tried
ryan_gwa
Exactly what Stu said. On the Zetec's it doesnt acount for an Engine Mount, but does have one of the Gearbox Mounts (and what a b*stard I found it to fit!). Also houses your Steering Rack.
