itsredanditsrusty
I asked my local tuning garage to tune my TD to give the extra 25 BHP as mentioned alsewhere on the forum, they opened the bonnet and told me they couldn't do it because it had "the throttle cable to the fuel pump and not the electronic one - sorry mate?" Are there more than one type of MK6 1.8 TD Does anyone know/ has anyone got the cable version like me and have they had it tuned ? Thanks for your help Chunging along on 90 BHP and in need of some more speed 1999 X Reg 80k
sidrick
You can manually turn the fuelling up. There's a scew somewhere. There's a few derv-heads kicking about that'll soon come along and show you where and how

white_van_man
only very late escorts had the electronic fuel pump the engine you have is the intercooled engine yeah? if so you can get 20-25bhp and a nice increase in torque by tweeking the fueling, boost and pump timing http://www.motorsport-developments.co.uk/pages/TDCat1.htm

itsredanditsrusty
it has to be done by people more in the know than ur local mot station.people like van aaken and MSD I went to westtec Performance tuning - a full rolling road tuning and performance garage ? WVM - My car is the last one made so I'm not sure why there is a later model ? yes it is intercooled. The tuning garage you have linked sounds great, however I'm in South Wales and they're near blackpool. Can anyone recommend a tuning garage closer? Thanks
white_van_man
it was only some of the late model escorts had the electronic pump version. i'll try search for you in a bit for a more local tuning place
Craig855S
ive done 800 mile round trips for less than a good tune up,just drive to MSD, or is berkshire closer, cos thats where van aaken is. they are the only 2 places i know of in the country that do mechanically controlled diesel tuning

itsredanditsrusty
Just been on the Van Aaken website. They look like a quality outfit, however they are saying this mod will increase power from 90 - to 103 BHP.I guess this is what they feel is safe and sustainable, however thats a lot of dosh for a 13bhp (14%) increase?I was hoping for more like 20-30. MSD website doesn't give figures however I have emailed them and await a response. Does anyone have any experience in this area or have had it done ? Has anyone had the 103 upgrade and if so was the notice worth it ? Rusty
