Escort boy
I need to swap over my passenger side headlight and wanted to know if there was a guide or summit on the forum so that I know what I'm doing and don't snap it to pieces. I don't have haynes manual as i think i lost it Wanted to know if there were any tips and what tools were needed, that kinda thing. Pics would be a dream
stuey650
Quite straight forward, Open bonnet, there are two bolts on the headlight unit you can see. Undo these. Theres also a third one behind the bumper which means you need to remove front bumper. To do this there are two screws at each end of the bumper in the wheel arch. Remove these. The weight off the bumper is held in with two nuts which are down the front of the radiator. Made sure the car is cold when you put your hand down to feel for them or it'll hurt! Also on the mk6 theres the plastic grill thing and cover you nede to remove first before you can get into the bumper nuts. Once you've got all that off just lift the bumper off and you'll see the 3rd hidden headlight bolt. Undo that and the headlight slips out. obviously disconnect the wires! Escort boy
Dear god sounds like a mission especially in this weather. Thanks for the info, was hoping it would be easy as fitting new headlight bulb but it isn't
stuey650
Its honesltly not that bad. Just a pain that the bumper has to come off to get the last stud out. ONe the bumper off the rest is a doddle.

majorj0nny
Was just about to ask the same ... I want to fit my smoked headlights , but I was shocked to read the haynes last night which was going on about disconnecting hoses from the radiator and all sorts ..,. sounded a nightmare job! does the bumper need fully removing, or just unbolting enough to shift it out the way enough to get to the hidden screws? ALSO - the haynes is useless in suggesting a method of roughly aiming your headlights afterwards ... the haynes basically sayd you cant do it - take it to ford or a garage with optical alignment devices? Now I demember back to my old mk4 haynes manual - there was a procedure about parking somany foot from a board and advusting the beams so they are a certain distance off the ground and left/right ??? surely there is some similar procedure for mk6 headlights? I obviously understand its not going to be amazingly accurate ... but so long as it aint 'bozz-eyed' with one light pointing into space and the other 2 foot away from the front of the car directly at the bloody floor ? lol

stuey650
Never aligned headlights myself, just throw them in and wait till next MOT!! however found this which I think is what MajoyJonny was on about, parked 25 feet from a wall etc. http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-9055.html
