paul7278
has anyone done or been in an escort that has had the flywheel lightened? will it allow the engine to rev faster, smoother etc.. or is it a complete waste of money?
Trig
the theory is that a lighter flywheel is less mass to be rotated by the crank, meaning that more power from the crank reaches the gearbox because less is used to rotate the flywheel. How much of a difference it would make on an otherwise nearly standard escort is unknown to me, but at a guess, I wouldnt say it would make much difference. Stu
It makes it considerably easier to stall....
paul7278
it would just be nice if my zetec would rev faster i suppose, mind you i think i need better tyres first just popped down to ford for some bits and the damn wheels wouldnt stop spinning! i looked a right muppet lol
Stu
They don't really make your car accelerate faster... as such.. they give it better response...
paul7278
i dont normally sound this retarded honest! but what is there to tune the 1.8 zetec ill tell you what ive done / going to do and if you could please tell me where im going wrong or put me in the right direction 130 spec cams, ecu, throttle body and MAFpipercross panel filtercat back stainless steel magnex exhaust now for what i want is just a 4-2-1 manifold with a sports cat is there anything else i can do besides throttle bods and turbo as i just cannot afford the managemennt!!! Stu
The management is the least of your worries when it comes to ITB's or Turbocharging! The only thing you can do that will make the car noticeably faster is add nitrous oxide.
paul7278
i can honestly say that ive thought about that with a wet kit with a progressive controller! how much is it to re-fill your nos bottle i have absolutly no idea
Stu
About £40 for 10 lbs... Which lasts about 90 seconds with a 50 shot...
rogerthecabbyboy
depends on the size of your bottle in all seriousness i think nitrous is great in its intended form i.e for short bursts like drag racing etc but its not a great power solution as a long term prospect not to mention the shock it creates on the drivetrain, adding a huge sledgehammer like whack of power in a hit will cause shock stresses to gearbox, clutch etc but then thats only from what i have read with no first hand experience.... paul7278
i agree, on a new car it should be fine but a car thats done 60k plus things will have a bigger chance or failing. plus the clutch would proabably need changing anyhow. hmm well in light of this topic im probably going to just turbo the damn thing! it works out cheaper in the long run i think.
