how do i get more BHP on my escort 1.6 si

its standard at the moment and it feels pretty sluggish. whats the best way to start. at the moment i only have about £300 but any tips would be good.

to be honest m8, wait until you can get the badboy on it, 'TURBO' that will see it fly, for now mate, just get the gases flowing nicy first, system and a filter. won't do that much, but will free up some pressure nad will run smoother if you start doing silly things then you'll just be pouring you money down the drain. save up a few thousnad and get an engine swap, rst? zetec turbo? this is what i doing anyway hope that helps

any garage can do an engine conversion, but choose wisely, reaserch never goes a miss, some big well known daddy companies will charge big bucks, they may be the best but the way they'll do it is the same as any other.

 

you can get an engine from anywhere, look out for rst being broken, this will be the cheaper turbo swap, the more expensive would be to tune the zetec, but do it on a 1.8 or 2.0 that should give you sufficent power, if not, then save up and get a fast car standard.

costs about £6000 to turbocharge the 2.0 engine, might aswell buy a sapphire coswoth

Drop a 1.8 in there, waste of money spending any thing on a 1.6 zetec!!

drop a 2litre zetec in by following the guides on here. DIY for under 500 quid, garage could do it for 500 quid if u supply the engine and new parts like the pumps and ECU etc,and the guide so they get it running on the right management.

 

Dont buy anything other than bolt ons for the 1.6,get a filter and exhaust which will work with the 2.0 too. And u can have 136+BHP for under a grand,easily possible
