1.6 Zetec occasionaly Lumpy tickover

Recommended Posts

As in title can do it when hot or cold then not for a few days

Engine has done 107,000 miles is not modified and has recently had a new cambelt.

Have tried a search which seems to suggest Idle Control Valve or MAF

But these seem to be for idling at 2,000 plus rpm.

Any ideas guys all gratefully recieved.

Cheers,

Nigel.

Have just tried it with MAF disconnected ran better.

On reconnecting the MAF tickover good but revving and slowing it was like the engine was hunting to find the correct tickover speed.Did this a few times on the driveway and it kept doing it.

Will take the car for a trip to the local tip later which always results in being caught in traffic and see if it still hunts for tickover speed or is lumpy.

Will get back later to let you know how i'm getting or or if any tips have arrived.

Cheers,

Nigel.

Mine was found to be head gasket used a bit of water not much tickover was sometimes good sometimes bad occassionally hunting till it settled down to a reasonable idle.

Its in garage at the moment should be back next tuesday or wednesday.

Having new water pum and thermostat as a matter of course in case they were damaged or part of the cause.

Hope this helps.

Got my car back yesterday

It's running like a dream.

Still it should do the amount of new parts and money thrown at it.

Puts all other plans on hold till possibbly the next millenium.

LOL
