sebsescort
Now i have my interior, exterior and exhaust system done, its time to move to handling. i bought 15inch alloys because i wanted the best handling, (so i heard). now i need to get it lowered to get it to handle effectivly, but, im on a budget and right now can only afford springs, i can scrap a set of eibach springs, are these any good? becasue they say that they are designed to work with your standard dampers. is this true? Thanks
Stu
If you want great handling, you'll keep the standard springs and uprate the dampers... You're attacking this a bit backwards.
rogerthecabbyboy
i was thinking about uprating the dampers and keeping the springs because i want it better than stock but not 'modded' if that makes sense. any other suggestions (sorry for hi-jacking the thread!!) sebsescort
thats alright 'rogerthecabbyboy' its still on topic stu, im looking for looks too so i want to get the car lower than standard, but don't want to spend stupid money like coilovers etc. i just want to know if springs on the standard dampers is OK for 12-18months or not? they say they work with the standard dampers, but just want some experience advice on whoever has done this method before Thanks
PeeWee
Ive not had problems on -40 springs & standard shocks on both cars now.No big handling increase & no adverse effects but looks nice. Edited July 11, 2007 by PeeWee

rogerthecabbyboy
lowering springs up to -40 mm are fine provided shocks are ok and in gwo. not ideal, but not bad.my main problem is a) i have a cabby so it looks lower than my old gti at the front even tho it was lowered on 17's, barely clears curbs when parking in car parks and this is stock on 14 inch steels!!and b) me and the missus have just bought a house so i have to justify every penny now coz money is tight where as before spending 300 quid plus a month on car stuff alone(not to mention nites out!!) was no big deal, but it is now!!
