tom8 Posted August 11, 2007 Share Posted August 11, 2007 hi iv got a mk 5b xr3i 1.8 and my gears have moved eg where 4th used to be it is N sorry if this seems stupid but i dont know nothing about it also when i go into 4th i have to hold it or it slips out there is bad buring which is the clutch and a bad moving noise when you change speeds the gear stick also moves alot when moving any advice much apreciated thanks tom Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

reid Posted August 12, 2007 Share Posted August 12, 2007 jack the car up fella and get yourself under there. you'll see two bars coming from where the gearstick is in the car to the back of the gearbox, the top one is a steady bar, the bottom one is the one your after, it sounds like this has came loose. its a 13mm bolt if i remember right.. you should be able to see exactly where it should go, its lshouldve left a clean bit where it was and a dirty bit at the end so unloosen it a little more and then have someone move the gearstick until it sits back where it should. then tighten it a little and have someone sit the gearstick where neutral should be, once theyve did that make sure the linkage is still sitting over the wee bar as it should and tighten up the bolt. job done.
