Simonez
hey all, as the title suggests, what do you think about using cheaper tyres, than branded tyres, which cost a fortune? been having a discussion with my uncles, and are the cheaper ones really worth it? say like federal, nankangs, khumos, etc compared to the toyos, yokos, bridgestones etc? are you one who wouldnt touch the cheap tyres? discuss simon
Mike C
I wouldn't touch Toyos again, no way. The only tyres I buy now (unless the manufacturer has a specific tyres designed for that car) are Goodyear F1 Eagle GS-D3's. They're not all that expensive and are a FANTASTIC tyre, although make sure they are the German-made ones and not Chinese-made, as this can pose "problems" come winter When you consider that your tyres are the only thing seperating your car from the tarmac, it's not an area you should be "skimping" on
bluliz
are you one who wouldnt touch the cheap tyres? I use Michlen Exalto's on the ST170.....not cheap at all. but they are very hard wearing and offer incredible grip. On the 1.8 Escort i have a pair of Pirelli P6000's not the best, but i like them, and 2 different ones on the back I used F1 Eagles GSD3's on the 1.6 escort when i had the mondeo wheels fitted....and before i had BF Goodrich and P6000's Certainly not one for budget tyres after some of the blow outs i've seen. Just this week there was an Escort Finesse at Ford with a split on the sidewall going round about 40% of the tyre......both sides.....
Simonez
i agree with not skimping on tyres, ive got 2 sets of alloys, for the Civic, one set in silver, which have Falkens all the way round, and the other set havent got any on yet, as they are being referbed in black, the black set of wheels, wont be on the car in the winter, so i dont no what to go for, i might stick with falkens, as ive had trouble free driving with them, but then im not sure, if i would splash out for others, or just go for a cheap set, like nankangs,
Stu
Federal SS595's are _fantastic_ budget tyres.. I only run two tyres, either SS595's or F1's...

If you like the falkens then stick with them. You know the handling and what to expect. My car was very twitchy with one pair of P6000's and one pair of BF Goodrich on. plumber60
Budget tyres... Nankang are all well and good once warm provided there's none of the wet stuff As Stu said, the SS595's are very good and relatively cheap in comparison to F1 GS-D3's

Nankang are all well and good once warm provided there's none of the wet stuff As Stu said, the SS595's are very good and relatively cheap in comparison to F1 GS-D3's Marshal KU17 will wear out in 8k under normal driving conditionsToyo T1-S are good in the dry, not too bad in the wet but wear v.quick.Toyo T1-R are same as above but wear better and pretty cheap.Falken Ziex ZE512 are shocking in the dry but awesome in the wet, wear very wellMarangoni Zeta Linea are awesome in the wet and dry but hard on the walletUniroyal Rainsport are the best in the wet along with SP9000 dunlops, cope well in the dry and great wear rate. The SP's are expensive....Firestone Firehawk TZ200 have very good grip in the wet but dont like working once hot in the dry All comes back to the federal's though as the best 'budget' option for all round performance.
