danposs86
Been thinking about getting a snake these past few weeks or so, been looking into it and found that corn snakes are the best for beginners. I just wondered if anyone had one (or other snakes)?? MINE: Edited August 13, 2007 by danposs86 GOt one now, see above!

Stu
Yeah corn snakes are the typical beginners snake.. they come in lots of nice colours too I got bored quickly with arachnids/lizards/snakes... they don't really like to be handled, they just 'let you' to warm up... and they carry disease. Give me fish anyday
Joe
I'd go for a male chameleon, or a bearded dragon - lovely
Stu
Chameleons are cool but they don't live very long They also need very fresh air, so non-smoking households only! They are _really_ cool though.

They don't have the worst life spans, if treated properly, and with the humidity kept perfect
Guest gti.tom
Dan, Have had corns for nearly ten years. Stu is right, they can get boring. I've had my current boy for 4 years, and i must admit i dont take him out more than once a month. He's happy, and the girls love to talk about him, but I quite fancy a big lizard now. Overall, if you want one, they're great, the first year of their life is the most important, getting them used to handling and feeding patterns. They're the perfect pet for holidays, the average two to three week holiday, they'll be fine. I suppose I'm recommending them. Try and get one from a reputable dealer and yes theres a selection of colours to choose from. Mine last year,

danposs86
Going to a highly recommended place tomorrow, told they really look after snakes there. Want to get a young corn snake, and get it used to handling, been researching and a minimum of 1/2 a day while young seems to be the best option, got any decent links Tom? Guest gti.tom
No links mate, had them before I even understood the internet. I'm assuming you're getting a hatchling? Make sure where you buy it from is supportive. If they refuse to eat you can end up with probs. If they have yearlings, it's an option to consider, but up to you. It is nice watching hatchlings grow. There are lots of guides online.
