Fuel pump?

let me tell you a story boys and girls

 

one day(today) i was driving to work about 3 miles away from my house and once i had got half way there my car started playing up as i pulled up to the lights it cut out, anyway started her up again and carried on with my merry journey. pulled up to the next junction car cut out again but the lights on the dash were flickering as if it was stilll trying to tick over any way arrived at my work place and tried backin the car up bang cut out, it hadnt done this when pullin away up till now so tried it again nope cut out once again so i pulled away in first perfect also to add to the equasion the fuel gauge has packed up it also seems lacking in power!

 

spoke to a couple of mechanics at the station and they said they seem the symptons of a knackered fuel pump but one of them seem to remember an escort they had that cut out because the reverse light was shorting out as it was connected to the same earth as the fuel pump.

 

every ones comments much appreciated!!!!

got same problem on my rs narrowed it down to dodgy connection with wires inside tank

 

so i'm gonna replace the complete fuel pump/sender unit

I have a fuel pump from a mondeo if its any good to any of you.

white van man dunno if it of any help to ya just got the car back turned out it was a dodgy earth! foolishly let my mate wire up a couple of bits in the car when i was puttin the sub in and he used the earth that was in the boot and aparentlly it all connects up to the fuel pump/ fuel gauge and the rear lights and it became loose!

right i could check mine then, where abouts is the earth by rear lights?
