Mike C
Is it at all possible to mate up the workings of an electric speedometer to work with the actual speedomoter fascia of a cable-operated item? meekstaaa
do you want to remove the speedo wobble by any chance? Couldn't you just get the 2 parts and then just wire it up and put it together with the analog speedo? Wouldn't it be easier to make a full digital speedo? Mike C
I don't have speedo wobble. I've had it on a couple of Escorts though, so know of that problem This is regarding a running gear transplant from a car that has an electric speedo Likelihood is that I'll have a digital speedometer anyway in a different location, but still want to keep the original dial fascia looking OEM, and still want it to be functional
Mike C
Ok, so the electrical speedo runs through the donor car's ECU, so to run it with any aftermarket management system, it needs an aftermarket speedo (or fit the donor car's electric speedo, which I am dead against doing), which some can run off the donor car's sender, others run off a sensor on the prop or driveshaft. I'm happy having an aftermarket speedo with a digital display in an alternative location, but this would render the original speedo non-functional, and I don't like that as I want to keep the Escort's dial fascia looking OEM, and everything MUST be functional otherwise it looks a little pointless... Stu
Anything is possible with a little bit of engineering...
Mike C
Anything is possible with a little bit of engineering... This is the basis I was working on I just hope it's not going to be too complicated... Hence why I envisage the easiest way would be to use an aftermarket digital speedo, which I would probably have anyway, even without the different running gear, but still want the original speedo to function
Stu
You don't even need to look at the speedo cable.. you should be able to drive the speedometer from the vehicle speed sensor in the gearbox (or even the ABS sensors)....
Mike C
Hmmmm, I'll bear that in mind.....
Si
doesn't a 2.0L GTE Digi dash have a converter that the speedo cable fixes to. Couldn't you use that instead.
Mike C
I could, but the point of the thread was my desire to keep the OEM dials in place and working, NOT replace them with anything I've already said, I will have an aftermarket digital speedo readout somewhere else Edited August 15, 2007 by Mike C
Si
Then just use the GTE sender at the other end of the cable, and fix it into the gearbox or i think the later escorts have VSS fitted. could you not just attach the cable to that. is genuine ford then, and no major modding needed IIRC
