revoltos
Well today had the job of replacing my ICV (dont clean it with throttle body cleaner as it eats the rubber seals). Anyway, went to take offside wheel of and the little metal surround that helps stop the locking key twisting off the nut as you undo came off. I tried to get it back on but the metal has flared up with torque over time so its fuked. I tried various methods to no avail and now the end of the nut is as good as knackered. Ieven tried belting a grove with a big flat head screw drtiver to drive it round abit but it just wont budge. What can I do to get it off as i'll need to replace it. It wasnt taken off long ago and wasnt wacked up as the car is off the road at the mo. I cant understand why it has got stuck.
robexor
i had this issue, in the end o got ford to take it off , they did it for free aswell !!!! makes a change other metods are get an old socket that fits really tight wack it on with a hammer but if they are alloys they be carefull not to wack to hard and risk cracking the alloy trust me seen it happen., not good, the use the socket bar to take it off . majorj0nny
I did the same recently with my locking wheel nut lock ... I removed all the locking wheel nuts the same way - got a new wheel wrench too as the cars original black short one I think was to blame as its not a brilliant fit for the lock .. bends too much cause its loose. I got a new wrench that fit very tight got a mate to keep the thing in by hidding it with a hammer as I slowly turned the wrench.. I suppose it depends on how much of the lock you got left ? the new locking wheel nuts I got where a better design .
revoltos
Cheers for the replies, I am trying it by myself at the mo, I think it would help to have someone hold it on or keep banging a socket on while I undo it. Im using a decent extendable wheel wrench but have tried it with a T bar to even the pressure. Now there's about 2/3rd of the actual lock shape left to get a socket on! Damm thing. How come with an Escort if its not one thing its another.

I know what ya mean mate - them old locking nuts are crap in their design - but the slack wheel wrench they come with does nothing to help minimise bending of the nut. revoltos
Finally got the bugger, banged a 21mm socket on and she finally worked loose. Thats one set of locking wheel nuts that wont be going back on! Breathes a big sigh or relief.....
